View Full Version : Idiot Statement of the Year
U.S. military too strong to lose Iraq war: Rumsfeld (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061017/ts_nm/iraq_usa_rumsfeld_dc;_ylt=AhnzoN0ZLANncKzUuS5AT3RZ .3QA;_ylu=X3oDMTA5aHJvMDdwBHNlYwN5bmNhdA--)
I have nothing but the utmost respect for the men and woman serving in the armed forces. These folks do not deserve idiots like this in the position of responsibility. And it is encouraging that after all this time, Rumsfield is starting to understand it's going to take more than force to get our folks out of harms way.
Hm, an exit strategy the military planners were telling him was needed would be helpful around now, don't you think!
When oh when is someone going to get smart and show Rumsfield the door?

Why? #He is still making tons of money for Haliburton.

I thought that was Cheney.
Rumsfeld has a lot of competition from his boss for stupid quotes.
Quote[/b] ]This morning my administration released the budget numbers for fiscal 2006. These budget numbers are not just estimates, these are the actual results for the fiscal year that ended February the 30th.

--Dubya White House, Oct. 11, 2006 Quote[/b] ]Secondly, it's really important, Pete, that people not think government is a loving entity. Government is law and justice. Love comes from the hearts of people that are able to impart love. And therefore, what Craig is doing is -- he doesn't realize it -- he's a social entrepreneur. He is inspiring others to continue to reach out to say to somebody who is lonely, I love you. And I'm afraid this requires a higher power than the federal government to cause somebody to love somebody.

Now there are people who will bash Bush for speaking of February the 30th. But this is about as smart as neocons get. So don't bash him.
Dumbsfield just doesn't get it. The US military is organized, equiped and trained to fight wars such as WW II, Korea, or even the operation in Iraq leading up to the capture of Bagdad. While some might call what is going on now a "war" it is really an occupation. The normal term for what is needed is "nation building." That is, setting up a government, restoring services such as electriicty, and getting an economy running. All of this has to be organized in the face of a civil war. The US military can easily "lose" the occupation--a role that they just aren't prepared to carry out.

People who understood the sociology of Iraq knew from the start that occupation and stabilzation would not be easy. #Lives continue to be lost as long as we stay in Iraq. #The toll mounts every day that we are there and the expense grows as well. #We can not afford to hang out in Iraq until things go as we want them to go...because that may be NEVER. # There is a social war, an economic war, a political war and worst of all a religious war going on in Iraq now. #Even in the best of circumstances we can not expect any future Iraqi government to recognize Israel and pledge to remain at peace with Israel. #Breaking Iraq into states still leaves a lot of political and economic questions unanswered and is probable cause for further civil aggression.
In my opinion we could do no worse by immediately pulling out of Iraq now than by staying with no end to present conditionas prevailing...but...
Politically GWB and Rumsfeld do not want to admit failure. #Nixon didn't want to end the war in VietNam for the same sort of foolish pride. #Sometimes we have to swallow our pride because sometimes we can't get things done the way we might like to have them done. #Heck...We were supposed to be bringing democracy to Iraq. #Can we expect to do that? #How would democracy apply there now? #
He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day. #
He who cries wolf when there is no wolf can not expect much help when there is one.
He who....often does....but shouldn't.
We have met the enemy. #They are not only us. #They are the Iraqis who we have liberated.
It is time for Rumsfeldt to resign.
