Ah, yes, dentists...
Do you realize that if all the world's dentists ever got together and formed an army, they could take over the world? They wouldn't need guns or bombs. All they'd have to do is threaten to give us all root canals!!

Root canal, no problem.
Wisdom teeth, not much problem.
Having primary teeth at age 49, interesting.
What sux is having a good dentist nearing retirement. I do not reach a comfort zone easily with new people crawling around inside my mouth.

Most modern day root canal dentists have the whole process down to a science. They can do root canals quickly and painlessly. These days getting a filling or an extraction is more of a pain than a root canal.

My uncle Jim used to make false teeth.
I did a two year apprenticeship, but realized I sucked at this trade.
Met a lot of Dentist.

My dentist kicks A$$ on root canals and crowns. I'd rather have one of those than a cleaning (speaking of pain here, not the bills).
Ron- If you don't mind driving to Westminster (104th & Federal), I know a good place. And I'm pickey. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

By coincidence I have an appointment to have root canal work on a tooth next Thursday. #My regular dentist has sent me to a master of ENDODONTICS, which means a root canal expert, who can charge more than regular dentists because his work is special. #I kid you not.
I have only a few teeth left in my jaws and must wear partial dentures. #One of my remaining teeth had lost its cap and to save what is left of it, rather than pull out the root, I need to get root canal work done. #If I don't do so I'll have to get the root pulled and also get my partial denture updated..so I opted for the root canal work.
I'm not afraid of root canal work. #It only requires a local anesthetic. #Many years ago I had inpacted wisdom teeth extracted using only local anesthesia and that was worse than getting many other teeth extracted and filled as well as useless periodontal work. # I now have only 10 real teeth left. # It helps to keep at least a few teeth to anchor the dentures on and to keep smiling.
When your mouth is numb from local anesthesia you rinse it out with a half a glass of water...and it really feels like a half a glass....even if you're not an optimist.

I have not had a painful dental experience in 30 years. Have had numerous crowns (ought to own stock in the companies that make them), several root canals, numerous cavities filled, and once had surgery to clean out around an absessed root.
It's a matter of going to a competent dentist who uses state-of-the-art techniques. All dentistry should be painless these days.
I used to dread going to the dentist as I would dread an appointment with the firing squad - thanks to the crude butchery they called dentistry back in the 50's. But when my teeth got in really bad shape in the mid 70's and I finally bit the bullet, I was introduced to painless dentistry, and have never had a bad experience since.
Age 64 and have never lost a tooth. But loads of metal and porcelaine in my mouth.

Hello.
I am going to have my teeth replaced all at once.
This is major dental implant work.
It might hurt just a bit.

My dentist happens to be my brother in law. I don't think I can get much better than that... He even takes my dental insurance!
It's not the actual dentistry that hurts but the bill that follows. :S
Three crowns installed and my dentist still doesn't greet me with "Your Majesty!" The nerve of some people...

You know what sux?
Living in a country where dentistry is a government sanctioned monopoly.
Mrs Cleary you need a crown on that molar. The cost will be $1,100 if we don't run into any complications.

I second the comment about I'd rather have practically anything done in a dentist's chair than a cleaning. #That's the worst. #
And I'm living proof of the saying I saw on the side of a bus..."Ignore your teeth and they'll go away."
Speaking of periodontists...
Back when I had enough teeth worth saving my regular dentist had me checked out by a periodontist. #But before I went he told me that he was lukewarm about that type of work..e.g., if the perio said my teeth would fall out, that wasn't necessarily the case, and it wasn't necessarily true that the pain and expense of perio work would do any good at all.
Well, the perio said my back teeth really needed work, but I didn't go through with it. #Glad of that. #Those are still there, it's the other ones that went bye-bye.

one
some dental hygienist are better than others
two
the more often you go the easier it is
for you and the hygienist
get my teeth cleaned every 4 months
if i get my teeth cleaned every 4 months
it takes about 20 min and does not hurt
wait and only go once every 8 months or more
it takes much longer
the hygienist has to work harder
and it does hurt
am 58
still have all my normal teeth
excpt one
where a 25 year old root canal went bad
remember what Soupy Sales said
be true to your teeth
and
they will not be false to you
