I have taken an interest in talk radio other than politics, for obvious reasons. I really enjoy Dave Ramsey and his economic insight. What about you? What are your favorite non political shows? Which ones do you loathe? Remember, NON political shows only please. Limbots and Scare America doesnt count on this thread

Dave Ramsey is good, if enough people listened to him thsi country would be much stronger.

I listen to Glenn beck, and while he does do politics he is not a mouthpiece for either party, he will call either on doing stupid things. He does politics when that is in the news, and does other current events when they are. And my favorite part is he does so in a very enternaining way.

His latest campaign is "forget the labels, vote American" and he is the only one who encourages people to do thier own research.

And he is the only one who actually seems to realize exactly what kind of struggle we are in today.

Yeah, he is sometimes political..but not partisan. More of a current events type show. He will spend entire shows and sometimes never mention politics.Listen to some of his comedy bits! (http://www.glennbeck.com/audio/archive.php?id=2)

Hummm, talk radio.

There is political, sports, some kind of dial up shrink which also seems to get real political, religion [aka bible thumpers extraordinaire] , and,… nothing else. You eliminated one so,….

I don’t listen to much talk radio at all.

If Bob and Tom count I do listen to them sometimes when I think of it. It seems that every radio station in the states has its ‘morning zoo’. I usually have a cassette tape or CD playing on my morning commute if I can’t raise anyone on the repeater.

Actually, I gave up on political talk radio a long time ago, but I do like listening to sports talk radio. The Fox Sports Radio programs with Tony Bruno and Chris Meyers are pretty good. Also, I like Jim Rome most of the time.
If I have the radio on anything, most of the time, it's sports.

I don't listen to any talk shows these days. There was a time when I listened to Crush Limburger, in the days before I knew better, and I sometimes listened to Art Bell's program just to hear his wacky guests spew forth their spiel. But now I really don't listen to any talk shows.

Not much, any more...but, when the local radio station has Twilight Zone Radio on, my daughter & I enjoy it.

With so much bias on both sides, it's HARD to get a good show without the heart rate hitting 110bpm or more.

Good responses folks, thankyou. I thought of a couple more during my latest sleep cycle. Rollye James and Steve Sommers came to mind from my OTR days. Granted they cater to the overnight driving crowd but are entertaining just the same. Some mornings I will pick up 'Im an ass in the morning' out of WFAN (carried on KXL), since its not always so political and occasionally very funny. I guess when #I asked for non political I had Vanity, Slush, Frankenstein and such in mind. Savage is entertaining and has a point of view I sometimes agree with, topic specific I guess. Glenn Beck IS very good and yes he will call both sides out if necessary (more and more necessary lately). References to Bob and Tom I dont get, since it must be an east coast thing I dont get out here in rural NW Orygun. I have found XM radio a great tool out here in the tooleybriars since after dark the local(?) Portland AM stations power down to the point where I get KKOH and Cali stations louder. Seattle has a bit of propagation here but it is mainly all the canned reruns of the shows I am sick of, or an ideaology I find disingenuous. I love DXing AM BCB from this locale as it doesnt have any high power squish sqash squish to contend with. I really hoped to have my 160 loop up before the rains hit, but not yet. It would play nice with the 706 on BCB for listening pleasure. Alas, even no broadcast TV out here (topographically challenged) and I refuse to pay for TV on satellite, since the YL and myself never were much into TV to begin with. Also, I noticed without TV our BP remains a lot lower and our minds arent polluted with what passes as entertainment these days. The news can make you want to suck on the end of a pistol sometimes, and who needs that http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

There. Wasnt that nice not to have another endless political bitchfest? I sure think so. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif How 'bout you?

Bill Handel, John & Ken, Mr KABC.

They are local political, but not party cool-aid drinkers. They bag on both sides when they deserve it. Handel's funny as hell, totally UN-PC.

John & Ken were probably a good part of getting people fired up to throw out gumby, I mean Gray Davis here in california.

I hate political talk radio, but I do like the kind of shows where people can call up and talk about local stuff. I used to listen to a lot of AM radio late at night when I was a police officer and patroled on midnight shift, but I don't anymore. The one local AM show I used to listen to everday was moved to FM and the station changed its AM to sports talk. I can't get the FM very well even with a good antenna.
The same station carried Don Imus, and I listened to his show. I don't always like him or agree with him but I did enjoy listening.

When I listen to the radio recreationally, it is almost exclusively for MUSIC. #Only occasionally do I even listen to the local news stations, and that's generally for one of perhaps three reasons. #1: The weather [although I tend to rely more on the local NOAA weather-bot on 162.55 MHz]. #2: Information about a major event [like, how big is that fire up there in the mountains?]. #3: Boredom and/or just spinning the dial.

At work, however... #Weekend Edition, Fresh Air, Talk Of The Nation [all NPR shows - I'll explain in a bit], As It Happens [CBC], and the BBC World Service. #I listen because those are the programs that we happen to be running during my regular shifts at KPCC. #I listen because I'm required to ensure that we don't "experience technical difficulties" and to correct them when they do happen. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif If something goes wrong and I don't catch it, it's my bulbous backside in a sling.

Political rant radio? #Blinking bold red underlined italicized capitalized NEVER. #Not a single yammering yahoo of ANY leaning, regardless of what it is, neither on radio nor on TV. #I am flatly not interested. #I can't even tell you who leans which way, and I don't care.

If I could have 100% a la carte personal choice in my cable TV channels, C-SPAN [Constant Sniping Partisans Ad Nauseum] would be among the first channels to be unceremoniously axed from my lineup. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Plus Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Day to Day and Radio France Internationale.

But of these, Talk of the Nation is the only one with listener call-ins, which I believe is the topic of this thread.

Damn straight. Hoping Santy brings me Sirius for Xmas. If not, I'll snag it myself. Used to listen to Howard every day during my hour-long commute.

There's an amusing local sports talk show on WNST 1570 AM -- Terry and Drew. I like that quite a bit, but I need to hear Howard again.

Also like Don and Mike. They can be hilarious, but can also get boring.

Kim Komando has an interesting show, but her callers are dumbasses. But I've learned some interesting stuff about consumer-level computer products.

And uh, BABABOOEY TO Y'ALL!

I have a weakness for Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion. He intends to amuse and leave the politics out.

Click & Clack's auto show is kind of fun to listen to, and I may even learn something about cars from time to time.

Sunday afternoons are a good NPR day at my place... other than that, it's whatever musical genre I'm in the mood for... a lot of times country music.

I don't listen to talk radio much anymore.

Instead I listen to ham QSOs.

Occasionally I will turn on O&A on XM but they've become childish.

I'm thinking of getting Sirius so I can listen to Stern.

Hey now....

The show I listen to most often is the Steve Dahl show (http://www.dahl.com) on WCKG FM out of Chicago. It's available via podcast as well. Steve Dahl is the original of the inaptly titled 'shock jocks' but doesn't get the credit he should for his influence on what has become a fairly popular genre of talk radio different from anything before it. Much like people don't remember Lenny Bruce but they remember George Carlin (who is great as well), there was no one like Steve before Steve. Though Steve is not shocking just to be shocking, he's just honest, there is a difference.

In the mornings I listen to Jonathan Brandmeier (http://www.wlup.com/Airstaff/johnnyb.aspx) on The Loop - WLUP FM in Chicago. They podcast as well, very funny show and he's been on and off radio in Chicago (and elsewhere) for sometime. Sometimes I'll listen to the tamed-down version of O&A that they play on WCKG, I think they're all right, but I do miss Howard Stern being on real radio, oh well.

Sometimes I'll listen to the political type shows like O'Reilly or Ed Schultz but for the most part I can only take so much of the 'serious' radio shows. A laugh goes a lot further for me and a Steve Dahl type showfits the bill quite nicely. Occasionally they'll talk about what's going on politically or in the news but it is done as comedic entertainment instead of all serious and conflictive type of talk. Since I'm in the vehicle a lot, especially since that's a big part of my job, talk radio is a nice distraction from the music stations that play the same songs over and over.
Interesting thread for a talk radio nerd like me.

Randi Rhodes is a psycho. I've listened to her and she is non-stop politics and Bush, neocon hater. You need more moderation in your radio listening life. Now I know why you are the way you are.
