View Full Version : VA Bans All Dogs at Hospital

"Gerald Boren, accompanied by his two Yorkshire terriers, had been dropping off and picking up his wife at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center where she works for 17 years before he was ticketed for a violation of No. 11 of 45 prohibited items and actions at veterans' hospitals."

The dogs were in his vehicle--not out and running around!

Shows just how stupid government can be!

Absolutely right. Whoever came up with this one should get the Fed version of the Darwin Award - The Dubya Award.

Don't be so quick to take sides. How about this scenario:

Dogs plop on the floor or seat in car. Occupant gets fecal material on clothes or shoes. Said material is brought into institution on clothes or shoes. People in institution upon multi sensory perception of material get upset. Old man on third floor contracts doggy pupu borne disease. Institution gets sued big time.

My experience of VA hospitals indicate that, should they decide to post a sign banning "dogs" they'd better specify the number of legs.

If that is a problem, then any vehicle entering the hospital grounds should never have been used to transport a dog (or child for that matter). And anyone entering the hospital grounds should have to go through a decontamination process to be sure they don't have any germs on them or fecal matter on their shoes or clothes. Just how far do you want to take your point?.

thats funny.... I thought they cut funding for VA hospitals. And what "sterile" VA facility you been in. Any of the ones I have to go to....Im better off with the dog. And I dont like dogs!

That is strange, I know a few veterans who are sight impaired and have seeing eye dogs.

One woman has a ‘companion’ dog to relive stress.

These people always have their dogs with them. The companion dog is a Pekinese.

Maybe they should also get an enema before the decontamination in case of an accident later.
In this way they will be purified.

sry will not fly

in over 50+ years of beeing around dogs
have yet to have one take a dump in a car

how many diseases do people get from dogs
nearly none

how many diseases do people get from other people
lots

what has more disease germs
a homeless alcoholic Nam Vet

or some pet dog

its another example of bureaucratic bull

its always easier to make a rule aganst something

its a pity that so many places
that people are stuck in
( like hospitals and nurseing homes )
do not alow dogs and cats to visit

nothing nothing cheers up many people
in hospital more
then a visit from a dog or cat

hell if i was in hospital
a visit by my dog
would cheer me up much more
than just about anything else

Why NAM Vet? #

Do you have a particular issue with Viet Nam Veterans?

Are we more disease ridden or likely to be alcoholics than any other Vets ?

I think you owe all Viet Nam Vets an apology. # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I wasn't necessarily in favor of my hypothesis just suggesting the thought. As you have pointed out the possibilities are endless. Are they to likely follow in succession?

Are we going to continue to lose our freedoms as the population steadily grows? I think the answer to that is obvious.

I think if an entrepeneur was to tap into just 1% of the women who have companion dogs to relieve stress population he would hit the fortune 500 overnight.

The Van Impe ministries are well aware of this bonanza.

That scenario is pointless. #Even if the fellow didn't have dogs, what's to prevent him from bringing something else in on his clothes or shoes that might have an even more detrimental effect to the patients? #

Perhaps we should mandate the sterilization of all persons who desire to enter a hospital? #Put them through a chlorine bath at the entrance, perhaps. #Or strip them to their skivvies and scrub them down with a strong anti-bacterial soap, while their watches, eyeglasses, change, tie clips, false teeth, etc. are being put through an autoclave, then make them walk through an airlock...

Ridiculous, isn't it?

The article I read on this mentioned a dog lunging at a passerby from within a car. Freaked the dood out and he fell down on the pavement, causing injury. Time for a new law!!!

This is why grocery carts have seat belts. People have lost the ability to just "roll" with life.

Nam Vets PERIOD,than any other kind of vet.

I do not deny that we Viet Nam Vets have more than our share of homelessness. It is sad that SOME of it IS service connected. I believe much of it is not.

As far as VA care goes, yes it could be better, but the cuts made were cuts to NON -Service related health problems. I don't have a big problem with that.

The VA still delivers reasonable quality care for service connected medical problems and disabilities. As a matter of fact the number and type of agent orange related health problems now covered by Veterans benefits has increased dramatically under the current administration. The amount of compensation for service related disabilities has continued to increase with the cost of living index as with previous administrations.

As a disabled Viet Nam combat Veteran I have no major complaints with the Veteran's Administration. Granted, I will be pissed if I end up in the VA hospital for a cochlear implant, and my XYL is not allowed into the parking lot because she has my dogs in the car. I don't see that as a political issue however, just an example of the typical idiocy common to our public agencies. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
