View Full Version : Did/Will Your Cell Phone Rat You Out?
Quote[/b] ]How products increasingly control and restrict your behaviour
This is a water damage sticker, which changes colour if moisture gets into this bit of the phone, and will be used to void your warranty if your phone stops working for any reason.
So, even if your cell got moist while you were bike riding or caught in a rain storm, or you have a problem that is unrelated to this, since you are now out-of-warranty, you are now also S. Out of Luck.

So pay a little extra each month on your cell phone bill and get the handset insurance. It's cheaper than full boat on a new phone. And there is no hassle about "water damage".
By the way, you did notice the link you posted was in the UK? The law is different there.

Many cellphone insurance policies won't cover water damage.
FWIW, I have insurance on my phone but I won't carry it anywhere where it could get wet. I have an expensive phone (treo 700p) so the insurance is almost mandatory.
I have GSM service, so I just buy unlocked phones on Ebay anyway. Cheaper than buying through the provider, i can get phones not otherwise available, and I can switch providers if I choose and keep my phone.
I have CDMA service.
While I can buy phones off ebay, it's a pain in the rear.

Nope. Don't carry a cell phone, don't want one, don't need one.

Cellphones get through the noise where other modes fail.

you might want to verify with your carrier that your high-end device is covered. cingular's handset insurance doesn't cover pdas, high-end devices, etc. (https://cingular.atgnow.com/cng/tutorials/KB65474.html)

Get a Nextel i60.
Mine has been through both hell and high water. #It gets dropped on concrete regularly. #It went through both the washer and the dryer in a pair of work pants. #I just took out the battery and hung it up in front of a heat duct until the moisture in the window went away. #Put battery back in and it worked fine. #I had the same thing happen to a Motrola pager. #Same cure, same results. #The other members of my family do not have Motorolas and they break every few weeks if mistreated.
Pretty much, if you can live through it, you Motorola phone will too!

Perhaps I'm just too simple minded. I've found that the best solution to avoiding these problems is to take care of your stuff. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif I'm not THAT attached to my cell phone. It's not that hard to simply take it off and leave it in the truck. I lived without one for 30 years.
