A court trying Saddam Hussein for killing Shi'ites in the 1980s could deliver its verdict on November 5, officials said.
Verdict to come two days before U.S. Congressional mid-term elections.
Funny that.

The REAL November surprise will be gasoline prices rising back up after the elections.

We would have been better off leaving him in power and keep him under control.

I see those Canadian liberal politicians are in bed with our American conservative politicians when it comes to gasoline price fixing.

Actually I was trying to point out that different governments with different ideologies cannot control the price of gasoline. The price of gasoline is determined by the market. Unless, of course, the liberal Canadian politicians are getting the same alleged payoffs from the petroleum industry as the conservative American politicians and they're all involved in price fixing.

Jerry,
There's nothing wrong with being a "liberal". #We actually need "liberals" to keep conservatives like me honest and to be a "bad example".

That's such a great graphic.
Once again, though, it is highly possible that the oil companies are doing a little price manipulation. They've never had a president who was so much in their pocket before. Both President and V.P. are bondfide oilmen. And, falling oil prices are propping up the stock market, making the economy look great until after the election.
But, if you look at last year, you will see that we had exactly the same oil price curve as this year. In fact, it was unusual because it was a departure from the pattern of previous decades.
The reason we have this curve, is "supply and demand". The catchy part is, however, that it is not the price that they're manipulating. That would be price gounging. Instead, GOP-endorsed oil company mergers, and an all-out effort to exterminate independent refineries, has allowed the big oil companies to set their refining capacity at a certain level, so that during the peak driving months, there is a built-in shortage, and hence, they sell all the gas they can produce at the absolute top price!
This is not price gouging. It is pure capitalism. If you can create a monopoly-like control over a marketplace, you can charge whatever the traffic will bear. It used to be illegal in America, but that was when we had an old-fashioned two-party system of government.
Their political representatives blame this on liberals who make it too hard to open new refineries and who want to prevent oil drilling in environmentally sensitive places, like national parks. They don't tell you that they have purchased and closed most of the independent refineries, and that while they've built no new refineries of their own, they have increased the capacity of many of the existing ones. Nor do they tell you the truth - that even if we had the oil from the North Slope of Alaska in hand today instead of the 10 years it will take to develop it - we don't have any additional refinery capacity, so we can't use it.
We will probably end up selling that oil to China and then buying back refined gasoline at a highly marked-up price.
We are, once again, being fleeced, with no hope of redemption from the current government.

No surprize there, they just increase locally by 10 cents a gallon.
Real surprise is folks will get elected, voters will expect change, and nothing will happen -- business as usual.

There again, no surprise to me. Except I would add the one word and make it "monkey business" as usual.
