Hey all, just wanted to say I got my Heath rig back up and running. I'm good for 20m and 40m and putting out about 2-3 watts.

Anyone want to try and see if I can get out using my old QRP rig again? The analog dial is a bit off freq, and I'm gonna have to learn how to read it again, but if I;m able to work someone on it again, please tell me what freq. I'm on so I can log it properly. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Good deal, Kristen. I'm now the proud owner of an HW-8 that I picked up at Shelby. Planning to be on with it from the beach in a week or two. Maybe, just maybe . . .

Good going! I'm sure a lot of us have been wondering what happened to the ole rig. Be sure to keep your brother away from it from now on!

KI4NZU,

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only new Op looking at the older radios. I just picked up an old HW-32 that was described as "for parts or repair." It and a few other 'project' radios are still sitting on my bench awaiting my attention. Learning code is a higher priority for me right now... I'm ready to go take my element 3, but I'm still needing more time with the code (those blasted outside distractions).

What was AG3Y talking about? What did your brother do to your radio???

PS - I have family in the Ithica and Syracuse area... I was up in the Watkins Glen and Ithica area this past summer... Vintage is a good way to describe the region (well, most of it)...

Have an 8 myself. Mine is highly modified, but works just fine.

Be careful to tune to the proper side of any signal. Tuning to the wrong side can have you responding where the other op isn't listening. If you don't have a manual, download one from the web if you can. It tells how.

Great to hear that another Heathkit will be on air. I have a 8 and 9 here and if I ever get a decent antenna up, I'd like to work HF with them. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have an HW-16; it's twice as good as an HW-8. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Eric, that statement is proof that RF radiation is NOT good for you! I had an HW16. After my SX140, that rig taught me the meaning of the word junk. Full break-in was the ONLY thing going for that rig. And that alone wasn't enough!
