Hello,

I have an old ICOM 2AT (2M HT), and several of the repeaters in my area require a PL tone to access them.

Does anyone know of a mod that I can attempt to add this functionality? (No budget to upgrade radio right now.)

Thanks!

Edited: I have found a workable solution. Thank you!

Hello.

If you can fine it, there was this aftermarket module that would sandwich between the radio and battery.
This allowed for one tone at a time with this tuning stick.
scrap the board inside and replace it with any of the current CTCSS boards and a dip swich that you mount.
This makes changing tones easy and does not change the radio.
The other mod you can do is to turn it into a european model, this gives you the 1750 tone by pressing the squelch button down and allows selection of CTCSS tone (toggle fuction).
All are very easy mods.
The only thing you want to be careful of is that the talkies chassis is at B+ voltage, do not allow the radio to touch ground in an automobile.

I don't think that is true of a 2AT

The IC2AT is a "negative ground" radio, so this is a non-issue.

Com-Spec is indeed the place to buy a CTCSS board for the 2AT. I did that 25 years ago with mine and still have it and yes it still works. The add-on board at that time came with a resistor and capacitor and the required instructions to change them to allow the PLL to work ok with the CTCSS tone. It was an easy mod I remember to this day sitting at my nightstand doing.

Good luck.
