Ex-Minnesota Gov. Jesse The Body/Mind Ventura's backing him. I wonder how he's getting those 10,000 troops though...

Quote[/b] ]The discussion took a more serious when Friedman began to talk about the racism allegations. The uproar began earlier this month when Friedman said the reason for the spike in crime in Houston was due to the "crackheads and thugs" that came in from the Katrina evacuation. Since the majority of the evacuees from hurricane Katrina were African Americans, the comment was seen as being racist.

They're grasping.

The trouble with Kinky is that like ILP he says whatever he is thinking, without being careful to be "politically correct", "faith based" or "family valued". IMHO that is exactly what we need. We need politicians who admit that they may have recognized facts and problems that others ignore for the sake of appearing neutral and avoiding confrontation by folks who might say the same things if they had any guts. In our present society only Blacks can critisize Blacks, only Jews like Kinky and me can critisize Jews...but the remainder of folks can just mumble to themselves and vote for guys that are sending creptic messages about their greater bigotries...in the ambigous names of "family values", "faith based initiatives" or other politically correct mainstrream assumptions that can't fit all Americans in the same ways.

Kinky's song, "God don't make Jews Like Jesus Anymore" has perturbed both Orthrodox Jews and Fundamentalist Christians...but lots of mainstream Americans can see the ironic humor of it. I dunno if Kinky can laugh all the way to the Texas governorship...but I wish him good luck!

w2ilp (Independent Laughing Politician)...You don't have to be a Kinky Jew to like him.

Regardless of politics, you gotta admire someone who can write (and sing) a song called "Get Your Biscuits In The Oven and Your Buns In The Bed"!

Jesse Ventura gets a lot of rocks thrown at him, but I think he was the best governor we've had up here in ages.

He spoke his mind - unfortunately, he sometimes should have probably kept his mouth shut. But I used to catch his weekly radio show at lunchtime, and I was amazed at how thoughtful some of his positions actually were. He also vetoed a great many little 'lawn order' regulations that the legislature tried to pass that would have caused a great deal more pain to citizens than any possible good.

It's too bad he has to act the part of the clown - he's actually got some great ideas. And I was disappointed that his party has fallen on hard times since he left. They've just become the spoilers for the Democrats here since.

I don't know if Kinky would be as good as Jesse, but if so, Texas could do a lot worse.

I don't think it is accuratge to compare Kinky and Ventura. Ventura did a few good things (his judicial appointments were uniformly excellent and non-political, for example). However, Ventura suffered from two overweaning faults: He was lazy. He did not want to do the hard work needed. He was also uninformed (as he demostrated several times during his radio show he had no idea how education, busing, etc. were funded). He combined these two faults, unfortunately, by not doing the work necessary to become informed.

Kinky is quite a bit better informed on such issues. He is also quite a bit funnier. <grin> Much of his humor has a point and a very powerful point.

I also used to listen to his radio show...........I believe it was on KFAN, right?

I was in charge of his monitor mix for a few of his bands performances in Minneapolis way back in the mid 1980's. His band was called: Jesse Ventura & the Solders of Fortune. Their "big hit" was a song called, The Body Rules. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

He used to use fake floor monitors on stage made out of balsa wood that were painted black. During the closing seconds of playing The Body Rules, Ventura would heave one of these "heavy" monitors above his head & send it craching down onto the stage...........Naturally the balsa wood would explode & the crowd would go nuts due to his super human abality to lift a stage monitor.

Another one of his tricks was to use a guitar as a stage prop. He would sling a guitar over his shoulder (the guitar strap was camouflage in colour) but he would NEVER strum one chord on it. He had no idea how to play guitar.

MANY other experiences about the half dozen shows that I ran audio for his band..........Not to be told on QRZ though!!!

Hello.

I agree, Kinky is very well informed.
The OJ Simpson trial was running, Kinky was asked about the N word.
Kinky responded with, something to the effect that this was ######, and to try to butter it up was just as wrong as the word itself.

It's about time Texas got a Kinky governor, NJ had several beginning with Morris and ending with McGreevy.

Any guy who is politically incorrect enough to call his band "Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys" deserves the vote. PC be dammed!
