View Full Version : The Black Flag
You see it everywhere. Flying in the spot normally reserved for the state flag. Over schools, hospitals, Post Offices, hell Govt Bldgs of any kind.
Veterens hospitals. Guns and Ammo magazine. New Yorker magazine.Liberal and conservative press. It is there.
The slogan is as familuar as "Support our Troops."For a time, it had the same impact.
John Rambo made a trip to post war Vietnam to liberate them. And a real life nut tried, although he bailed, leaving some of his team behind I belive, to rot in Vietnamease prisons. And during the media blitz, a roumor circulated into the press that a pow/mia exists in Iraq, but the White House Blitzed the story and did not mention it again, for several anti war liberals were hoping he would play that bull#### card and screw himself.
I am talking about the POW/MIA flag, and other then in the popular press and to a greater degree, the ultra right wing press, they do not exist in Vietnam. And if there were any, they shared the same fate as the pows we held. Tourtered. Maimed. Crippled. Murdered. And I am sure that if any existed after the war, it is because they denounced the U.S, and became card carrying communists.
There was one, featured in the media about 20-odd years ago. He was that. And he did not escape. he was allowed to leave, for his presence, with no war on was a public relations embarrasement. Probablly how the Black Flag got it's start.
With the screwball currently in the Whith House not showing any inclination at stopping the insanity at hand, i think it is about time we as a free people writh our representives, and demant that the Black Flag be removed from public display over federal buildings, and our state reps about it flying over our schools where our children view it day in and day out.
If there are any pow/mia's around, we have them. In secret C.I.A. tourture prisons. Not the other side. Not them. Us.
It has served the purpose it was designed to do. It helped polarize the right from the left during the Clinton years. It flew over federal buildings where the Presidents porterit was missing until well into his second term.I think they were not delivered, but "Lost" in some warehouse by a Clinton hating federal employee.
But the Black Flags were not.
That has to be the biggest crock of crap I have seen here yet.
The flag says POW-MIA. The latter half stands for MISSING IN ACTION, of which we still have thousands of soldier, fate unkown. It does not stand for just Vietnam, but for POW's and MIA's in ALL wars.
Did you know we still have a MIA/captured soldier in this war? Of course despite your best attempts to drag down our country and act as if we are no better than our enemies do you actually think he is in a Gitmo style facility with 3 square meals, medical care, and the utmost in religous sensitivity?
There is another from the first Gulf War whose fate has yet to be determined.
Your utter comptemt for the military is showing, was the USAF a bad experience?
Oh, and by the way when you say:
It has served the purpose it was designed to do. It helped polarize the right from the left during the Clinton years. It flew over federal buildings where the Presidents porterit was missing until well into his second term.I think they were not delivered, but "Lost" in some warehouse by a Clinton hating federal employee.
You show your ignorance. The flag was granted Federal recognition when on August 10, 1990, the 101st Congress passed U.S. Public Law 101-355, which recognized the POW/MIA flag .
Yes the 101st Congress, and Democrat controlled Congress before Clinton even took office... did the Clinton haters have a time machine?
It seems I have done my job as a writer.
And it has nothing to do with the Air Force. I rather liked it. It has to do with my contempt for the right wing in general, the extreme in paticular.
National reconition or not, it is still propaganda now as it was then. Bush Jr. tried to play the card and backed out of the attempt immediatly. It was extremist bunk, and he should not even had tried to play it.
The Black Flag scares me at how easily we all can be duped. It is up there, right under the stars and stripes, but with a frighting sub-texual message.
People kind of like the jolly rojer. People tettoo it on their bodies, people decorate their homes with skulls, a popular football team uses a version of it cleaned up, disneyland sells them.
It's a black flag.
Some rally around it. With Clinton in office, sub-texually it told some nutbags that it was o.k, he will be gone soon.Unite!
Open a trade magazine. it was in there.Guns and ammo magazine.Even Harpers. The liberal press could not boycott it, so they had to accept payment to put it in their rag.
Our children see it over schools every day. Some who would rather see the nazi flag flying take it as an acceptable substitute. It is a powerful image. Of violance and hate.
It is a black flag.
The black flag.
The black flag.
Black flag.
School.
Hate.
Intolerance.
A weeny liberal is in office.
At least we have the black flag.
Now another Bush is in office.Look what we have now.But hey, it is all right. we all hate liberals. And we have the Black Flag.
Tolerance for ultra right wing learnings.
Nazi web sites.
How to make bombs.
Schools.
The Black Flag.
Hey, it is all right. It is a national symbol. It was made so just before Bush ran for his second term.
, way back then. It flew during the Regan era. Everything is going to be O.K.

Hello.
For supporters of America troops there is one kind of block flag.
For everything else, there is this kindBlack flag for "writers" (http://www.blackflag.com/products/roach_motel.php)
The 'Sleeper Effect" of mass media tells us that an additude change takes place in the minds of a target population after the conclusion of a propaganda champaign.
The Black Flag is like the energizer gremlin, ah, I mean bunny. it just keeps on going, and going, and going.....
Every thing is going to be O.K.
Wrist slapping for tourture, and guidelines in army manual.
The C.I.A. doesn't have restrictions. And as far as the Army's manual, there sort of just guidelines.
Acceptable.
Don't you see. Everything is going to be alright.
Everything is going to be O.K.
Everythings O.K.

I am not a republican.
I am not a former military man.
I still have four of my former classmates who went to the jungle and are still listed as missing in action.
Not captured.
Not listed as dead.
I have a black POW-MIA flag that is flown on holidays.
I have an American flag that is flown all the time.
I am an American.
These flags still mean something to me.

I remember the Black Flag Roach Motel. Roaches check in but they don't check out. I think one got away but not before getting a snoot full of the poison.
After reading these few responses, I cannot help but to come to the conclusion that
Everything is O.K.
Why is it that the annoying mass posters are named Robert?
Isn't "Black Flag" an '80's punk band?
"We're gonna have a TV party, tonight, ALLRIGHT!"

Yes, led by Henry Rollins.
"Don't wanna talk about anything else, we don't wanna know....
We're just dedicated, to all our favorite shows"
"Black Flag" is also a great song from one of the most incredibly overlooked bands in history, King's X.

I always hated those little "baby on board signs". Sure glad they went out of style.
Of course I never dedicated a rant thread to them.
People would think I was a wacko if I were so enthralled with a ignorable item.

Ah, the legendary Black Flag.
I saw them many a time in Minneapolis at First Ave. There is a side room in the club called the 7th Street Entry. Holds maybe 200 people. The shows were always sweaty & crowded.
The warm up band for Black Flag used to be Tom Trocollis Dog. These guys were nothing more than the road crew for Black Flag. Funny times.
I believe one of the Black Flag shows I saw was the triple billing of Husker Du, The Replacements and Black Flag. Those were the days when I thought punk rock would change the world!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I also recall seeing The Minuteman & Black Flag playing a show together in Minneapolis.

I saw D. Boon with The Minutemen in '85 open for REM on the Fables tour, one week before he died.

The last time I looked, the POW MIA flag is black and white. It also says "You are not forgotten".
I should know, because my dad flys one proudly every year on veterans day. He went over there with a few friends who are in that category.
I find it insulting to them that you would even think about attacking people, fellow citizens, who, right or wrong, took up arms and fought for our country.
If the flag offends you....try not looking at it.
The Black Flag is used in NASCAR racing to indicate to a driver they need to exit the track for some kind of rules violation, or because they aren't maintaining minimum required speed.
That, and the bug spray are the only 2 black flags I know.
I'm all for freedom of expression, but I wouldn't suggest making your views known among a group of veterans. Especially on Veterans day. I believe the flag is proper as it clearly conveys that we should not forget them.
If anti-war protestors can show up at funerals for our fallen, then I think a reminder of the fact that we have or had POW's, and MIA's is allowable. I love when people preach freedom of speech, but only when its thier speech. Its all or nothing, folks.
I knew there was a reason I just had to rave about the sub-text message of the Black Flag.
We had another school shooting this morning.
Precognition sucks.Too much QRM and QRN.And maybe some QSB too.
The way you guys needle me in this thread is why they burned witches in the not too distant past.
Hey, we are all communicators. just look at it as a mode not quite fully developed and perfected yet.
Don't kill the messanger.

The only subtext message I see in the POW/MIA flag is that there are Americans who are missing, who have families that want to know what happened to them, who have friends that could use some sort of closure, and a message to our servicemen that no matter how unpopular a war is or how it turns out, they won't be abandoned.
I have no idea what your original posting was supposed to mean, but I don't know anyone who finds political messages in that flag or that finds it offensive. I found your posting to be a bit bizarre. I am sure some would find your post to be more offensive than whatever it is you see (or imagine) in the POW/MIA flag.

I thought that I would show my opinion of the "writer" of the missive that started this thread by flying a flag of my own.
