I got back into ham radio this summer after being away for about 30 years. Perhaps someone could give me the background on the "game" that seems to be going on at 14.275. It is hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys. What is with the VE7 that seems to be on the frequency all the time with his "editorials"? I guess it would be a good frequency to avoid, but "what's the deal?"

I like to think of 14.275 as amateur radios version of CB channel 6, 27.025, otherwise known as the "SUPERBOWL", or "BOWL" for short.
That crazy canadian is usually spouting his hate, racism, etc anytime there is propagation to the lower 48.
He is best ignored.
I have heard him go on for hours complaining about malicious interference, and he is the only one on the frequency. He often strikes up conversations with some fictional amateur somewhere that no one but he can hear.
Then he will sometimes break into speaking polish, croation, or some other middle european language that I do not understand.
As I say, best IGNORED. There is nothing that we as Americans can do about him, but he is an international embarrassment to amateur radio.

It seems to me that the Canadian authority would want to do something about him. Also, I made the mistake of calling him the first day I was on the air. Never again! I have heard other US hams talking to him. It seems that they are encouraging him. I have also heard other people recording and re-transmit things from this frequency. Can't they be stopped?

Then you get a 7 or something page letter is history from him. None of which tells you anything. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
14.275 just proves that everyone that should be, is not necessarily institutionalized!(sp) http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The FCC, if provided documentation that US amateurs were causing 'malicious interference' to Karel, would most likely take action against the US violators.
Industry Canada, the Canadian regulators do not seem to be interested in policing the amateur bands as their US counterparts enforce regulations.
Too bad, as I for one would LOVE to see IC go banging on Karel's door with a search warrant, or whatever they are called north of the border.

As a dual citizen and having lived in Canada for many years, I've been cynical as hell about Industry Canada for a long time. IC appears to be mainly charged with a responsibility to ensure that those who have, get more.
Amateur radio is supposedly not a profit-generation scheme. Whyinhell is IC in charge of it?
Grmmph.

It seems to me that amateurs (US, Canadian and worldwide) should maybe take an active role in policing the bands. Perhaps if Industry Canada (and the FCC in the case of American violators) were to be swamped with emails and other complaints, there might be some action taken. In the case of American contributors to the mess, there must be hams close to them that might be able to identify. It just doesn't make sense to simply close our eyes and allow the zoo to continue. It makes all of us look bad.

Enough. When a thread degenerates to CB type threats, in jest or not, it ends.
