GWB has said many times that the terrorist hate us for our freedoms. With the recent passage of the bill limiting habeas corpus for suspected terrorists, the warrantless wiretaps, etc. the Adminstration will continue to whittle down the reasons for us to be hated. Soon the terrorist will have no reason what-so-ever.

Sounds like you want to give the terrorists a cookie and send them on their way

Absolutely not, but I fear the quote from Ben Franklin is becoming more and more true every day. Why is standing up for our Constitution taken as being soft on terrorists?

No, just due process. I'm sure some innocent or undeserving people have managed to get caught up in this situation. How is this "appeasement" to the enemy? If the government can demonstrate a case against an individual, they will continue to hold him. What's so great about "America" if our government's standards of conduct are no different from those of authoritarian dictatorships throughout the would?

According to King George, Ben and the other George (Washington) were both terrorists.

I recall reading somewhere that the Loyalists questioned the integrity of the "rebels" because they used unconventional (today would be called guerilla) warfare tactics while fighting His Majesty's forces.

If you want to know how our founding fathers dealt with terrorism, read about the Barbary pirates.

To N2NH: What Ben had to say had nothing to do with terrorist but rather the choice we are being asked to make today. Read the quote at the bottom of the post.

If the terrorists hate us so much, why do they wear AMERICAN jeans...drive AMERICAN vehicles...eat AMERICAN style food....watch tv that has AMERICAN sit-coms on the screen...they like to get AMERICAN dollars to buy other items with ( food/weapons/etc )

If they hate us so much, take all the stuff that can be looked upon as representing the AMERICAN way of life out of their life .

THEN let them try to survive.

Actually Ben Franklin is quoted as saying "Oh Sh*t, I just melted my only house key!" Not having lock picks or even a credit card on him he was in quite a pickle. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Wasn't Ben also the father of taxes here in the U.S? Damn socialist. As I recall, it had something to do with extracting a fee from a number of businesses to have their sidewalks cleaned daily. Been awhile since I read his biography.

here is the opening words of the constition "We the People of the United States" No other persons have the right to enjoy these rights who are from any other country who take up arms againts us. That is what the law that was past helps keep.

It is not people from other countries whose rights under the Constitution are in danger of being eroded( You're correct-they don't have any). It is the danger that American citizens will be swept up with the others and not given their due process. Only in movies, where the cops beat up the bad guys and we cheer, are the apparently guilty always guilty. There already has been a case where the courts prevented a U.S. citizen from being held without habeas corpus. The administration had declared him to be an enemy combatant. You are naive if you believe that government agents never make a mistake. To deny others their due process is in the end endangering you own rights. Arrest and convict the guilty but do it "by the book". And don't shortchange the protections afforded by the law and Constitution-the Administration has and continues to do just that. Their position has been if you don't like the law; ignore it or have Congress change it but don't let it get in your way. After all GWB and company thought they made a mistake once but they decided were wrong!!
