I was just wondering. What happened to the "Support the troops " ribbon magnet crowd, #Have they lost interest? I don't see anywhere near the number of these things being displayed now as compared to several years ago.

I still see lots of them.
Some people have gotten new or at least newer cars and have figured out that water will collect under the magnets and cause the paint to discolor so they haven’t put them on the newer buggy.

We got rid of all the garbage and dead animals around the house and now all the maggots and flies are gone ....... huh ?
Oh , magnets ?..... Nevermind http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I am sure the drain of the local car wash is full of them.
That is what happened to mine. After I went through 5 or 6 of them I figured that I would never remember to take them off before going through the wash.

Maybe they found out that there's a little more to the "Support Our Troops" thing than just to display a decal, magnet or bumpersticker. To actually and TRUELY support the troops means to support the mission and the President, their Commander in Chief, who sent them there in the first place. It seems as though they don't want to do things that actually involve their time and trouble to support a family whose mom or dad, son or daughter is slugging it out with the enemy in places like Afghanistan or in Iraq. Although these kinds of people give it plently of "lip service", they lack any real substance or conviction to the words "Support Our Troops".

It's kind of like after the 9/11 attack. EVERYBODY had plastic flags on their cars. That was a passing fad too.
BTW, most people did support the president, look where it got them.

You should see what my wife put on tailgate of my truck! She calls it a "moving memorial' to all our troops.

The one on our car either got stolen while we were in Iowa a couple of weeks ago or it blew off out on the highway. All I know was that it was on there when we left town, I know I saw both of the magnet ribbons on the car when I stuck the suitcases and other junk in the trunk. When we got back, it was gone. Exactly when and where it disappeared, I haven't a clue.

...some time back there was one of these AAROW signs like you see where you put up what letters / numbers to where drivers could see your message and stop at that business....you know the kind that say " 2 liter drink for 99 cents "...or message about a blood drive on a certain day ... churches use them to mention they are having a revival, etc...
well there was one that read ---
" PRAY FOR OUR TROOPS "
some one took the first letter R out of the message, or the wind got a hold of it and blew it in the ditch.
I support the troops but you won't catch me putting one of those ugly things on my car.

I still see a lot of flags.
I think they look ridiculous, especially those that are tattered and torn. Isn't it against flag etiquette to display a tattered flag?
A flag tastefully displayed is OK in my book, especially in your front yard, on a nice, neat flag pole and properly lit at night. But not these ridiculous window clip on plastic things that are torn and tattered and look like they're causing enough wind drag to take away at least 5MPG from your fuel economy.

Sorry, I want a bumper sticker that says "I Support our troops, but the commander in chief totally sucks".
I'll spare you the long rant about why President Bush totally sucks. In short, I believe that history will record him as either a self-deluded, misguided zealot or a criminal. He has violated the Constitution many times, he has violated the most basic rules of international conduct, and hundreds of billions of dollars have gone missing on his watch. Thousands of dead U.S. soldiers, tens of thousands of U.S. wounded, 100's of thousands of dead Iraqis - all on " bad intelligence". Now, we know that he's been lying to us about the real conditions in Iraq. And that completely overlooks everything he has done and failed to do here at home! If this country wasn't numb from the neck up, he'd have been out of office long ago.
I applaud the ongoing efforts and bravery of our troops. We were misled into this war, but our troops have more than done their job, and I hope they can achieve their goals, though that is looking less and less likely all the time.
No sir, I do not have to support maniacs or criminals just because they were able to fool enough voters in the red states to barely win.

They're all over the place down here, as are the yard signs.
But then, we're a 'red' state...
