This is great commentary on the recent President Clinton/ Chris Wallace interview. Carroll sums it up precisely.

Jon Carroll's commentary regarding President Clinton and his Critics (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2006/09/29/DDG6PKEC351.DTL)

Quote[/b] ]The great thing about Bill Clinton is how angry he makes the spittle-flecked right-wingers. When I write a political column, I get a lot of angry mail, and it all goes something like this: "Whiny liberals like you blah blah blah Bill Clinton blah blah hanging is too good for you blah blah blah Bill CLINTON blah blah blah Commie friends." Yeah, they really say "Commies"; they didn't get the memo.

Sounds like some of our QRZ posters. It's always the same stuff, "liberals" "Bill Clinton" and "Commies".

Quote[/b] ]Fox News interviews are a no-win situation for anyone who disagrees with the Fox worldview. The bully moderator barks questions, does not let the guest finish answers, asserts facts not in evidence and in general plays dirty in order to win. That's the mandate; anyone who didn't work that way would quickly find himself anchoring "Good Morning, Moline."

I've been saying this about Fox "News" for years. THEY NEVER LET ANYONE ANSWER A QUESTION. President Clinton faced Chris Wallace when he tried that tactic the other night. I'm glad he did.

Quote[/b] ]I certainly do hope that the Democrats took the hint. George Bush is right; appeasement doesn't work. Trying to get into a dialogue with neocon ideologues is a chump's game. Don't pretend they're just like regular politicians; they're not. They don't care what you think. And I've been hearing what they think for a long time, and I don't need to hear it anymore.

The reason that the swiftboating of John Kerry was successful is that the Kerry campaign accepted the premise that the issue was important. It wasn't. The proper response was, "All lies; next question." Some people would howl, but they weren't gonna vote for John Kerry anyway.

Amen, brother. President Clinton had the courage to step up and answer the noise machine. I hope all Democrats and other people who believe the same way step up and not let the ideological warriors from the other side take this country down the drain.

Wot a crock!

The whole Clinton "anger" thing was a scripted event, and anyone who could believe otherwise is fooling himself, or presenting a front. Of course, Dave is known for both, among other things, so this should not be surprising.

Clinton is probably the very best liar we have ever had in the White House. Even Bob Kerrey, who is a Demo with credentials that Clinton could never match, stated without embarrassment or reservation that Clinton was an inveterate liar of unmatched skill.

Now, of course, a few rubber stamp commentators must be found to support the view that Clinton was a "warrior scorned" and had to defend his "honor" by hotly declaiming the charges against him.

History will judge Clinton; it won't be kind.

Overall, I think history will probably judge Bush as an "average" president. Clinton, by any objective measure, will fall below average, though not down among the grovelers like Carter and Harding.

History will judge some of Bush's decisions rather harshly, I think; but the worst acts Bush will be judged on will probably be his overall unwillingness to use the veto in any meaningful way. His record of acquiescing, rolling over really, in the face of the Congress' profligate spending will probably be the harshest criticism.

I don't expect that much of the current howling about the war issue will prove to be as much a historical debit as many of you seem to believe.

My bubble's just fine. Cheney is the most powerful vice-President in history. Bush may be the "decider" but much of the policy is Cheney's.

And he has an office in the WH.

So does the janitor, but most of US don't think of him as being "in the White House." When Bush is gone, so too will the illustrious -- and clearly terrifying -- Mr Cheney.

And, not surprisingly, your knowledge of American history is deficient. Go back and look at Jefferson/Burr and you will find the "most powerful vice-president in history."

Well, you aren't "history", President Clinton will be judged favorably by cooler non-ideological heads.

Despite your continual multi-syllabic defense of the current administration, it's obvious who the serial liar is, and it isn't President Clinton. Myself and others have chronicled the lies told by President Bush and his administration, so there is no need to repeat them again. Your continual denial of the facts doesn't change anything.

As for the "scripted event" nonsense, I'm not surprised you came rushing to Fox "News" defense. As Carroll described, his response was a natural reaction to attacks. President Clinton is to be commended for standing up to this BS.

We've now smoked out your phony centrism, Alberto. you need to drop the facade and get back in bed with your conservative cohorts.

Neo-cons are saying that Clinton "lost his cool" and "freaked out" (http://www.qrz.com/ib-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=17;t=133118) at the interview. But if the shoe had been on the other foot, and it had been Bush who was being interviewed, and if Bush had responded exactly the same way instead of his usual sputtering, stuttering and stammering, the neo-con spin would have been what a great president we have who is willing to stick to his guns and stand up to the media sharks.

I'm sure the word "liberal" would have made it into the text multiple times, too.

IMB,

Anyway, a year ago, when Cheney was still known to be passing top secret information to the Phillipines, he was said to have had an office within the White House to pass this information

Quote[/b] ]Both the FBI and CIA are calling it the first case of espionage in the White House in modern history.....Leandro Aragoncillo, 46, was a U.S. Marine most recently assigned to the staff of Vice President Dick Cheney.
