Pension Protection Act streamlines charitable donations from IRAs (Sep 19, 2006) -- The ARRL Development Office notes that a provision of the new Pension Protection Act (PPA) of 2006 offers an opportunity for certain IRA holders to give something back to Amateur Radio by donating to the Spectrum Defense Fund, to the ARRL Education and Technology Fund or for the ARRL Diamond Club -- which provides flexible funding for a variety of programs not supported by member dues. "Individuals who are at least 70-1/2 and support nonprofits of their choice may use IRA or Roth IRA assets as a convenient, tax-efficient source to make contributions while conserving non-IRA assets," ARRL Chief Development Officer Mary Hobart, K1MMH, points out. "Contributions must be made directly from the IRA to the organization, not to a donor-advised fund, gift annuity or trust." Hobart says contributions of up to $100,000 may be made during each of two years -- by December 31, 2006, and by December 31, 2007. "A direct contribution from an IRA to a qualified organization is excluded from income," she emphasizes. "I hope you are considering a year-end gift to the ARRL." Hobart urges prospective donors to consult with a financial advisor before taking advantage of this opportunity. Contact Hobart for more information (860-594-0397).

No different than many organizations are doing these days. ARRL is just the latest to get in on this means of making money.

If you are that age (I am not ... but some of us are) and have the means to do so, many will, whether here or somewhere else.

It helps the taxes on your end ... according to my CPA.

Ok. Other than mentioning the ARRL, what in the heck does this have to do with Amateur Radio?

Heck, the way things are going, I'd expect to see an ARRL/K1MAN merger soon.

Credit cards anyone?

Is the ARRL trying to buy off the FCC inorder to keep the Amateur Bands?

What are my yearly ARRL dues going for , if not to support Amateur Radio?

Indeed, a lot of us have the same questions.

Those of us of a "certain age" remember the ARRL HQ building fund drive back in the 1960s. #The idea was to have hams contribute to the fund to build the new HQ on the site in Newington. #Hams responded with donations and eventually exceeded the target. #The League built the new HQ and sold their old building (38 LaSalle Road, West Hartford) for a profit that was almost enough to cover the cost of the new HQ building.

Follow the money.

Vey Interesting Fred.

Some one's getting rich off of our $$$$$$

The ARRL has done nothing to resolve the code issue too.
