Looks like a big box of junk to me. There are even idiots bidding it. I guess there are more idiots out there than I thought!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Filiments - 6.3V @ 160A x2 tubes.
You're going to need a forklift to move the filament transformer. Plate supply need 10KV @ about 4.3A in AB1 for 1 tube. Screen supply needs 1.5KV.

Who is taking bets that this shows up on 27.025 mHz http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Good grief.

Does anyone really think this was a piece of broadcast equipment?

Proof positive that if you put together two or more things that were never put together before, some idiot will buy it from you!

Not hardly. It didn't bring price of one tube.

The tank circuit tells you this thing ain't fer 75 meter ragchews! Maybe for 27.075 MHZ?

Actually the tank circuit suggests VHF, so I suppose it could have been intended for the FM broadcast band. But I doubt it. Haven't run across too many homebrew FM broadcast transmitters!!

Nah, this was for "This do be the Unit 120, and I got the key down and you ain't gonna talk" type.

The statements "......this would make a nice 500miliwatt input Full legal output ham amp......"

and

"......this unit was designed to be driven by a 3CX3000A7 amp......"

don't quite match.

About 35 dB power gain? I don't think so!!

The fact that there are 15 bids and it's up to $1 300 also beggars belief. Browsing on QRZ.com has taught me a lot about the "CB culture" you blokes have to contend with; thank God we don't have it here!!

Ah, the olde "built for a radio station but never used" story..........Looks kinda beat up for never being used.

His buy it now price of $6000 has me scratching my head. He must think the tubes (brand mismatched by the way) are worth their weight in gold.

One can find a lot better amplifier if a person is into running serious smoke.

This is meant for the 'Big Strapper' crowd on "The 'Bowl" (Ch6).

There was a guy known as 'Poppa Powerhouse' from the Dallas area who got popped last year with a 30kW amp.

One wonders how long it'll be before the new owner will begin to rack up TVI complaints and get the FCC on his case...

I, for one, would love to know what knuckleheads with 30kW amplifiers on the chicken band (aka: 27 mHz) use for antennas and transmission line http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

I don't exactly remember, but it seems to me that 30 kW would melt LDF5-50A....That's 7/8" Heliax.
Remember, most of the high power crowd on 27.025 mHz (the Bowl) use AM. Maybe, just MAYBE LDF7-50A would handle the power (LDF7-50A is 1.5/8" Heliax.)

And what about connectors.....

a PL-259 at 30 kW......Watch it vaporize !!!!
POOF, in a BIG puff of smoke.

Flange connectors are the only thing hefty enough for that power level.

And, how about antennas http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
Even the BIG directional antennas marketed for 11 meters are rated around 2.5 kW.
30 kW into an antenna rated at 2.5 kW,
Call the fire department to extinguish the fire and clean up all the molten metal, and EMS to take the casualties to the hospital/morgue.

Sure sounds like a huge waste of electrons and $$$ to me !!!!

But, what do I know http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

"some cb op on drugs or booz"

That's the first thing that comes to mind any time I hear activity on 'The Bowl'

The hell with the electric bill, I would hate to have to pay their BOOZE bill !!!

It's a wonder more of these "OPERATORS" haven't been fried to a 'crispy critter' by now.

In the words of Steve Martin, "What the hell is THAT?"

It reminds me of something in the Barnum Museum only it lacks fur.

No, the above mentioned eBay amplifier is NOT being sold by myself, KCØW.

This threads title with my callsign it in is in reference to a new "big gun" amp I recently bought. Here is that thread: KCØW Amplifier (http://www.qrz.com/ib-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=133035)

I don't want anything thinking that I'm selling this kind of eBay garbage.

Thanks,

I sure didn't want to imply that it was your amp.

I was just making reference to your amp [that you put pics of on here] was qrp in comparison.

I agree with others that think the ebay amp is a cber wet dream.
