View Full Version : HamSexy "Politcs" Forum Shut Down

Quote[/b] ]The politics forums is now closed. There are plenty of other boards for political discussion. Hamsexy is no longer one of them. Please take any topics of a political nature elsewhere. This has been an administrative decision and is not targeted at anyone.
The "Politics" forum has existed on the HamSexy website for at least several months, but until recently, remained obscure with only occasional postings. About a week ago some new faces showed up and the volume of activity suddenly increased from maybe one new topic per week, to several per day. Most of the new threads were clearly of a liberal/progressive persuasion, but postings included opposing viewpoints. The discussion remained clean, without insults, profanity, threats or personal attacks, and the new participants followed the rules. But apparently, the only "politics" to be tolerated on that board were of the neo-conservative variety, so that forum was promptly taken off the site.

Looks like that forum is going downhill fast, which is too bad because it used to be a fun place.

Hamsexy ain't worth it's weight in urine ( the P word). They (admistrators) are so cool using the F'ing F word, and all their juvenile preoccupation with stupid childish sex nonsense.
They can't handle anything truly adult.
The place is for toddlers who can't properly wipe themselves.
And for the meathead bozo who BANNED me there: I call you onto the carpet anytime, you want to do some verbage? Try me.....loser.

I don't really get why the HamSexy dudes are so phobic about political posts, yet they allow juvenile potty humor all over their site. I guess they want everyone who visits there to have the junior high school boy's locker room experience.
It's too bad, really. Some of the satire IS funny, and it's obvious some of their front page writers are intelligent and keen observers. The obscene avatars and constant adolescent sexual references are really boring, so I don't post there.

Once again, you see the hypocrisy. #Liberals speak their mind, it is filth. #A neocon can plainly say that liberals are crybaby commie pinko America-haters who lack decency and are rootin'-tootin' disciples of dirt, and it is free speech.

The thing to be considered is that such sites are privately owned and maintained and the owner has control and there is no majority rule.
I support private property and the ability of an owner to control it. Liberal , conservative or moderate.
It has to work both ways.

Hypocrisy, like beauty, lies in the eye of the beholder. Like the proverbial "log."
Not all of us, not even many, are capable of keeping a dialogue at the level of gentlmanly discourse, Jerry Maximus, and frequently it is only we two who can manage it.

No, Dave, some people can disagree on an adult manner- and then some like to constantly pick at scabs. I feel that some posts here are nothing but mean-spirited attacks upon others in Hamdom simply because of their ideals. We ought to be better ambassadors....

Politics and Religion have no place in ham radio.
Both cause hard feelings, which this hobby is
not supposed to create.
If someone wants to discuss either, there are a several political boards to sign up for.

Check the title of the forum. It includes "politics" as did the Hamsexy forum. The Hamsexy boys decided to shut off the politics threads as KYV says, because they couldn't handle the content. There's no way you can spin it otherwise.

Hamsexy. #Oh yeah. #That site I registered for, made about 5 posts, then was suddenly banned.
I guess my posts in the railroading section about the artifical bells they were using at crossings in Roseville, Ca bothered them.
No biggie. #They can do what they like. #I find the policital rhetoric on QRZ to be perfectly fine with me. #I know when I click on one of those topics I'm bound to get a chuckle or two. #Some of the people on here, if they could get consistant one liners going would be good comedians. #But of course, one persons humor is another persons aghast look, so you never know.
As for HS....if it was to slip off the face of the internet, I'd probably notice it about as much as a tree falling in a forest with nobody around, to be honest http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
If QRZ were to do anything, I'd suggest making a seperated politics only forum. That way if I need a laugh I can find those particular topics quickly.
That way I wouldn't even have to put even a minimal amount of effort into locating them amongst the other ragchew stuff.
But other than that, keep on keeping on. With the return of some people who shouldn't have been barred, the Zed is back to its old primetime form in my opinion, and I look forward to seeing whats happening on it daily again. It got a little bland for a while.
Keep on keeping on!

The simplest way to avoid politics and religion is not to read or respond to those topics.
Why is it that people wish to muzzle others whose discussions -- arguments -- make them uncomfortable? Or, perhaps worse, make them think.
The urge to censor seems to be equally impetuous from either side of the coin.

These are topics that are KNOW to be controversial and some people take them VERY seriously, so you have to be sure where and when to start them.

"Anyways I think politics and religion topics should be avoided everywhere in society, virtual or not, and be confined to very restricted places. "
Religion, yes...
But politics...
The very essence of our form of government depends on the electorate, citizenry, people being informed about what our elected officials are doing and, if they have something to say, be it praise or critism, they are obligated to talk about it. #Whether or not any particular forum or arena is an "appropriate" place for politics is a fair question and one that hopefully can be determined by concensus of the participants. #And I agree with you that politics are not appropriate anytime, anywhere. #But I gotta disagree with "very restricted places." #That statement brings up the questions:
Restricted to where? #And by whom? #And when? And why?
We bought a couple t-shirts at Dayton, because we thought that making fun of skywarn was cool (skyporn.. heh).
But I really don't get these guys. They seem to be a bit juvenile at best. They seem to have a real hatred for ARES yet they embrace RACES to the fullest. I really also don't get a lot of their jokes. What is up with them, really?

I see such things all the time.
Politicians or such groups handing out fliers or looking for petition signatures.
Church groups selling candy bars or cookies talking to folks.
Boy Scouts doing the same.
Girl Scouts, Sportsmen Club, local rock band, etc......
If we all held in what we think and just went about our lives, the world would be a pretty boring place wouldn't it?
And remember, your comments against such things are themselves, an opinion on a subject to which others may not agree with.

One of them is a vollie with a fire department.
ARES is one of the groups with "SuperHamCop" mentality.
RACES seem to be a bit more tame.
With that said, I was banned, primary would be my view on religion.
I do not disagree that they have every right to ban, for whatever reason.
What I disagree with is changing the posts once the person is banned.
Now, with that said, you will find that the "Islamic" websites I go for echo the sentiment of most Amarican Muslims.
"Nothing is sacred" should give you a hint.
http://iranian.com/
Or, there is always Islamica, try the news section, shall we?
http://www.islamicanews.com/
You will find that 99.99% of all American Muslims think that the clerics that are making all the noise are nuts.
But, as was pointed out, we have the press showing the American flag burning in Islamic countries.
Where did they get an American flag from?
You will notice, this is always a fresh flag, perhaps right out of the package?

A dear friend of mine who passed away a year and a half ago became more and more agitated online in some sorts of Islamic forums because he felt there were many murderous racist sentiments expressed there. I was never interested in his lonely battles and I really didn't give a flying flip about Israel, Palestine, Jews, Arabs, or anything else going on over there other than it worried and irritated me, especially when I witnessed the most evil act of my life on that fateful Tuesday in September.
At my friend Paul's memorial service, I found out that he had been a war hero, something he never mentioned. I also was shocked at the letters sent from Israel. Paul was Arab by blood, but the letters from Israel were heartfelt outpourings of the human soul for a fallen loved one from people who did not know Paul for anything but his comments in a web forum.
It is amazing what kind of people there are in this world. Just when you think you've gone way past cynical, someone is wonderful.

Hello.
The vollie thing ties hand in hand with the RACES thing, and why you and a few others are not happy with SOME hams.
I know, I was there at Dayton talking to the bunch, I am the guy carrying the "GE lowband" talkie in the large blue denim case strapped to waist.
I also did quite a bit of listening on the bands.
Now, for the rest of the story.
I am not pro Israeli, nor anti Israeli.
I do not agree with most Islamic countries, the politics suck.
The reason I have any relations with Saudi Arabia is the Kabba is there, that and the US has sent me there 7 times.
Now, to make this clear, I disagree with attacks on people who are non combatants, people who have no weapons, are not fighting.
I could care less who is doing it, be it the US, Israeli,
Arab, whoever, that is my beef.
The last "anti-semitic" remark I said was my disagreement with an Israeli settler killing a 9 year old boy with no weapon.
If you recall, the settler was tried and given almost no punishment.
I would be upset if this went on in the US, as it did in the 30's in the US, think white vs black in the south.
That was what I pointed out.
That was, at least in part, why I was banned.

It was almost right out of the box being there I detected an aura to be lax in some areas, that wouldn't be tolerated on most sites, and a feeling of walking on eggs in areas that should have been OK to talk about.
Again the best way to describe them is juvenile. Lewd, tastelessness in an adolescent light is fine. Anything of an adult nature which is thought provoking or contra to the values of the guard there is strictly out.

QRZ is a fine site with a great history, and serves it's members well. Hamsexy is a mere gnat compared to the grand dragonfly that is QRZ.

This issue is very amusing to me, considering who is weighing in. A lot of the names I see posting in this thread are those who have been kicked off of Hamsexy for one reason or another (or are boyfriends of those who were kicked off). You've gotta try pretty hard to get kicked off of the site, though.... and the few that have gotten the golden boot certainly have been kicked for good reasons. Going on racist and anti-semetic rants is a pretty efficient way to get booted from any respectable forum, though (even ours). A few other names I don't know - some have visited and decided Hamsexy wasn't for them... God bless 'em, they have that right and we thank them for giving us a shot. Our site certainly isn't for everyone. On the other hand, some have decided to call us out without even visiting our site, which is also their right (I guess).
The politics thing is a new one, though..... but if you've got a chip on your shoulder, you'll try anything to take a dig wherever and whenever.

Gentlemen?
I'm not at all familiar with the HamSexy site....but I do see a lot of political bashings going on here at QRZ.com. Some (no names) have even taken to posting less flattering 'perceptions' of others. The old, Dr. Phil line about, "There IS no REALITY, merely perception." doesn't hold water. If I've smashed my thumb accidently when hammering a nail, the pain, swelling and blood blister are Reality, Phil, not a perception. Can you TELL, I'm not a Dr. Phil fan?, hehehehehe. Should I "accept" your "perception" of me, knowing that it is not TRUE, then I'm allowing you to have "POWER" over me and I simply refuse to do that.
IMHO, the Politics name should be removed from this forum, along with any discussions about organized Religion as well. These type of discussions do nothing positive for the Ham Radio community nor the World, for that matter. It only inflames the minds of those with opposing thoughts.
HATE is such a harsh word to use. I hate no one and yet I may agree to disagree with anyone, I will still fight for their right to express and have that feeling. Hate is a wasted emotion. It does nothing to the offended target, but eats like a cancer on one's mental health, physical health and one's soul. It causes ulcer's, raises one's blood pressure, which in turn, shortens one's life.
I, for one, want to hang around for a l-o-n-g time to be able to ENJOY LIFE with my family and those good friends I have made via ham radio. Yes, I'd like the "opportunity" to have a QSO with each one of you, no matter what your political or religious stance. No, I won't discuss politics and my Faith is a very deep and personal relationship and may NOT be right for you. If asked, I can only tell of what that relationship has been between THE CREATOR and myself, period.
Now, having said that...Why aren't y'all are sharing recipies about bar-b-que sauces, the UTLIMATE tail-gating dip, the perfect steak (hickory/mesqite/apple wood?), LOL! Y'all should KNOW that MEN are the Top Chefs.
Why aren't there more Texas Aggie Travelin' Salesman jokes... I have a real good "groaner" (aka. corney) one, hehe.
Now, if I've offened anyone's sensibilities, my deepest and most sincere apology. But, this is just MY OPINION.

Shakespeare's Henry V, Act 4, Scene 3:
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made
And crowns for convoy put into his purse:
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian:'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispin's day.'
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Being the obnoxious sod that I am, I enjoy both sites........ QRZ for the features and information and Hamsexy for the lighter side of our 'shared-by-us-all' hobby of misfits. It is unfortunate that the Politics thread is gone from Hamsexy as it made a pleasant alternate to the far left liberal, PITA, 'Let's Start A Hug A Terrorist Day' and 'Hug A Tree' bunch here and for serious radio discussion beyond what Motorola has to offer, QRZ has it's place.
As much as we pick on each other and everyone else on Hamsexy, it's all in good fun, well, for most of us, as I was the obnoxious little fat kid who would jab you with a stick to see if you would cry to Mummy or be up for a bloody good fight, my opinion may not be shared by anyone else either here or there, but, I can honestly say that I really don't care.
Anyway, if you are stupid enough to take it beyond an opinion and take it down to a personal level, expect to be banned from either site. If you think that it all needs to be serious all of the time, try this....... go look yourself in the eye in the mirror and say out loud, "I am an amateur radio operator." If you can do that without, laughing, crying or being proud, come on over, I'll be glad to jab you in the eye with a stick to help snap you back to reality.
My point? Easy really, Hamsexy is a collection of friends that may or may have not met face to face who share similar views, interests and complimenting senses of humor.... if you don't fit in, so what, there are other places to go and share your interests with other like minded individuals......... QRZ is a group of thousands upon thousands of predominantly amateur radio enthusiasts who share a common hobby, or here's another analogy, Hamsexy is Frankie's FunPark and QRZ is Disneyland, we all have our preferences so we can choose one or the other, or both and if you don't like one or the other, just STFU and don't go back, or don't come back..... how hard can this be to grasp, even for a bunch of hams. Geebus, this is all supposed to be fun and entertaining, if it's not, consider your options. You have the right to speak your mind and I have the right to agree, disagree, laugh, cry or slap the taste out of your mouth.
Oh, and have a lovely day, won't you? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

These type of discussions do nothing positive for the Ham Radio community nor the World, for that matter. It only inflames the minds of those with opposing thoughts.
I'd have to disagree with you there, Donald: politics and religion should be discussed on-line and elsewhere; it's important to see the flip side of a philosophy or point of view. I think the world would be a better place if we used the two golden words (not those two, silly), "I understand."
The problem is that we take politics and religion to heart because we're passionate about them on one level or another...and it's that passion that gets the better of us sometimes so we lose objectivity.

It's certainly fair game - the truth of the matter is this: We have no phobia regarding political discussion - the two anti-Bush threads started in the two weeks before we decided to axe the forums had no bearing on why we deleted them.
Removal of the politics forum has been discussed among our moderators for quite some time (moderators of Hamsexy are among the users and moderators of QRZ - they can tell you).
As well, there are several forums on Hamsexy that could very well get the axe in the near future as we try to 'trim the fat' and get rid of some of the non-radio oriented forums (railfanning, our buy & sell forums, gun discussions, NWS postings area, etc.). If we get rid of the gun forum, does that mean that we are suddenly anti-gun? Kinda falls to the wayside of the whole Neocon conspiracy.
Honestly, with the amount of people on here (and in general) who have chips on their collective shoulders regarding Hamsexy, we could have deleted anything and people would have started bitching.
It was not a political thing. I, myself am no fan of Bush nor how Iraq was handled, so the whole "neo-con conspiracy" theory really holds no water. These accusations were made by a vocal few who have nothing better to do but whine about something that makes no sense.
Seriously, though - this whole argument was started and continued by crybabies who were banned from Hamsexy for some reason or another, so this whole exchange doesn't really concern me in the slightest. A lot of the names I see crying against us here aren't even members of the site nor have visited the forum in question. Unfortunatley, those who are members of and contribute to Hamsexy are now getting false impressions of our intentions, which is my real concern.

Perhaps I can shed some light on the situation. The sudden upswing in political discussions on the HamSexy site was the result of the closure of another ham radio related board, that had originally been specifically set up to handle off-topic discussions, similar to this forum on QRZ. That board was closed because one or two cry-babies didn't like the political orientation of most of the threads (even though they just monitored, without participating). Just before that board was closed, one of the cry-babies had even publicly contacted the administrators and offered to make a hefty monetary contribution (bribe) if that forum were given the axe. But as far as I know, he never followed thruough with his promise once the forum was gone.
So the dislocated participants decided to try to carry on using HamSexy's "Politics" forum, given that it was somewhat obscure and activity was very light, while seemingly inviting just the kind of activity that had been squashed on the other forum. I recall posting a message there (on HamSexy) several months ago, and it still appeared on the first page of the topics index.
Then, within a week of joining the HSX "Politics" forum and generating a greatly increased volume of activity, the new members found it too, to be unexpectedly pulled from under them.
No justification for suspicion?

My guess is a lot of these that have worked their way into being banned from your site are also those who took great pride in working to be banned here so they could claim it as a badge of honor at your site. They thought that as long as they were bashing QRZ they would be welcome with open arms. Now they find this not to be the only requirement for their membership being held in good standing and have flip flopped their griping.
Funniest is that one of those in this thread most outspoken against you is one that was throwing all kinds of things around on these forums during the last uprising between members of this site and yours. I bold the word members to emphasize that the problems at that time were stirred by members and not the staff of either site. Their basic jest at that time was that QRZ was evil and HamSexy could do no wrong (and vice versa I'm sure.) Looks like that honeymoon is over. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif I'm sure you won't lose too much sleep over it.

phpBB has a very ineloquant way of informing prospective members of such, but you got that message if you tried to sign up with a 'disposable' e-mail address (gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.) - due to the large amount of people who like to join Hamsexy to spam or tell us off, we only accept ISP or ham radio callsign e-mail domains (ARRL, RAC, etc.)

Found me knocked out flat on my head
Some feline beauty
Waved her tail my way

She made my eyes bug out
Her tail stand up
And I ain't even in heat for a month
Meow

You really got it made
Sleepin' all night
And perfect delight of day
Some feline beauty
Waved her tail my way
I just had to stay
I couldn't get the blood off my bed
She made my eyes bug out

And I ain't even in heat for a month

Some bad cats from 4th Street
Come down to our alley
Well, we say that's cool
But just stay away from me and my boys
Eyes clash
And claws slash
And green-eyed fur goes flyin'

Cat fight
Neck bite

I would definitely say that the HamSexy site has changed ham radio for the better.
When I first stumbled across the site I thought it's existence was merely to bash the ARES groups. #I wrote to Bryan and explained that our ARES group, as the case with many others, was nothing like the groups that they were making fun of and I explained how we worked to keep the much complained about 'wannabees' out of our groups.
He printed my e-mail and asked to keep them coming. #It seems that the site was very interested in posting both sides but had little in the form of sensible posts to that effect.
The site illustrated to me that the wannabee problem exists in many areas, even in the UK, and can hamper the working relationships between well trained and well meaning volunteer communicators and their intended served agencies. #If they would have made their point in the usual blah-blah manner, who would have noticed?
The site also brings to light many other not so endearing attributes of ham radio in a manner meant to entertain those with adequate senses of humor. #
What was once a scourge has now become a sought venue for HamSexiness. #Now hams with scores of antennas and radios actually want their vehicles to be in the HamSexy limelight. #The word HamSexy itself now has multiple meanings. #It can mean either hideous or cool, depending upon the context used.
As Bryan said the site tries to remain close to the subject of ham radio. #There are plenty of places to talk politics and I see no problem with Bryan's desire to remove it as a non-ham related sector of the site.
I applaud the modus operandi of the HamSexy staff to resist the erosion of the site by attempting the unattainable task of trying to please all that visit. #The mere attempt would dull the site to mediocrity. #I am glad that HamSexy realizes that it is the flair that fans seek and the outrageous pictures and stories are the main attraction of the site, a site becoming rapidly well known among hams and non-ham EMS workers alike.
Bryan did not have to come here and explain his actions, but he did. #He did so very succinctly and still had to dodge a few arrows in the process.
I suggest that some time is spent on the HamSexy site before uttering a critique. #There will be posts that will enrage some folks but more that are just plain hilarious. # The pictures alone are worth taking a few hits to our egos. #And if you have a beef with them I can tell you by experience that a well written message to Bryan will answered with respect. #It may even get your view of a hot topic on the cover of HamSexy.

Mark K8MHZ

Hello.
Do not get me wrong, I do not agree with everything that goes on at hamsexy.
But several of my friends are now hams, due in part to hamsexy.
Everybody who knows me knows I like to mess with radios.
A lot have said that they liked the idea of what I was doing but did not like the supercop mentality.
Hamsexy is anything but supercop, more like a bunch of high school kids gone wild with radios, nothing wrong with that.
