I am in Houston and putting together my first JOTA station for Saturday Oct 21 noon to 11 PM
my license is tech, but i have 3 advanced licensees lined up to help.
I will work 2M and 6M (if it opens) and do some of the coaching about HAM radio.
The other guys will handle HF phone, CW and digital
we will be inviting all scouts in the area Cubs, Boys, Girls and the neighborhood kids too.

How much activity do you normally see during this event?
Any of you planning on being on the air for it??

I am under 13 and a boy scout. I also have my general. Trust me, those scouts will love that! My scout master (k0vbu) and I set up a station at a Scout camp and had scouts on the air just about everytime we flipped the rig on, or sometimes just listening. 73's

there are web pages that list frequencies and call signs for JOTA activity they can be accessed from ARRL web page at this address http://www.arrl.org/FandES/ead/#scout

Houston may have 2 JOTA stations. I have been asked to get some HAMS to set up at a local merit badge fair.

I trust you had a good JOTA, my leader was trying to get into 2M but didnt have much luck,

I remember him being rele happy when we got into scout HQ, cant remember where he said it was though.

I was using the callsign GB4NDS (standing for GB4 Northampton District Scouts)

We got a go callsign, was a special one oly for JOTA, it was GB4JOTA, though it was very cleva!

our day was a success
after we finally got the equipment to work and re-did the antenna after the lawn guys cut the ropes holding it up in the trees !!
we did a little good on 40 M, but the band was fading out really bad
2M proved very useful.... talked to some local guys (from 40 mile to 90 miles out) that were Eagle Scouts and a mobile rig up in Amarillo Texas (about 600 milea away)using linked repeaters
