I want to be able to talk to younger kids on the bands and I never know when anyone is on. I tried another blog for a kids net and I only got 1 kid to answer me. I really want to talk to someone else. If you write me back tell me the times when you're usually on. I am on some days during the week around 6:30,7:00 til' about 7:30 or 8:00 Somebody please write to me soon! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I REALLY hope you are a kid too and not some guy who's old enough to get a job as a Wal-Mart greeter. #That would be creepy.
LOL I was just thinking the same thing.
But let's keep an open mind here.
Too bad your DOB doesn't show up in the FCC database anymore.

To KC5SAS and all the other weak minded people. KB1LVM is my daughter and she recently upgraded to General. She is under the age of 18. She started this topic because of the old timers monopolizing the airwaves, discussing how wonderful each others signal and audio is, and discouraging the next generation to carry on the ameteur radio tradition. She is hoping to get other young people on the air that want to learn and enjoy the hobby just as the generation before had done. I am not saying all HAMs are rude , but I have watched her call CQ during decent propagation and not get a response. Where as I could call on or near the same frequency a short time later and make numerous contacts throughout the night.
Instead of downplaying her post and having negative comments, a little encouragement and helpful suggestions would make for a better post.

Hey, 17 yrs old here, i'll SKED with you, just gotta make sure its not a time that Im working or at school. I am the co-founder of my high schools amateur radio club and if permiting, you could sked with the club. I am a general class lisence... the club is an extra (KB1NAY)... I run voice, CW, and soundcard digital. The club is just starting up again this year and we are really pushing for new members... there are a few freshmen who are going to check out our meetings, they are probably more close to your age...
This is a great hobby, I know it can be pretty boring talking to people 2, 3, 4 times your age... (Although i do enjoy it as well, buts it can be over whelming sometimes). The best thing to do is to find other young hams and also just keep trying new things in the hobby... new mode.... new band...
My schedual is usually school from 6am-2pm, work 3-6 on weekdays... so say after 7 is when I can talk... weekends are less filled. saterday I work 9-5 and sundays I run the Mountain bike club at school from 10-12 or 1.... so in general thats my timeframe.... The school club meets on mondays at 2 pm - 3:30 OR 4PM...
* I am usualy on the westford, ma RPTer (-) 146.955 pl 74.4 ... best if you catch me on my commute home from school....

Don't get all worked up, OM. But I am glad that you clarified things.
If anything what others did was a good thing and just watching out for the community.
I hope your daughter doesn't get scared off.
However, realize that the world we live in isn't exactly perfect.
There are a lot of predators out there who would use any medium to get access to youngsters. The internet is the most common, but don't think it can't happen on the radio.
Anyway, I hope your daughter enjoys the radio and the hobby.
Even as someone who is almost 30, I find it hard to find people around my age group on HF who aren't simply interested in slam, bam, QRZ? There were a few I talked to on local repeaters and worked with at public service events though. However I want to talk to people far and wide, not just nearby.
So my apologies if I offended anyone and I wish your daughter the best of luck.

I made my comment based on the info in the original post which did not include any mention of the age of the person looking to QSO with kids. #
I am offended by your labeling me as weak minded for making a comment to what was a very vague post.
Congratulations to your daughter for her accomplishments. #I hope that she is one day mature enough to defend herself in a public forum without having her father jump in with insults and accusations about people they don't even know. #
I offer no apology and stand by my original post that if some AARP member is specifically looking to contact kiddies we should be suspicious of that person until they are proven harmless.
Please do not PM me in the future. Especially if the PM is going to include lines like the one you sent- Quote[/b] ]I wonder if you are one of the "creepy ones".
You may have gotten an apology before but that little jab in the PM changed my mind.
Get Bent,

I was trying to give you an opportunity to respond without putting this publically and reaffirming my original comment.
Apparently by the tone of your response, I was right.
Hopefully you have not offended any respectable members of the AARP.
By the way, I was not asked to defend her. I was being a caring parent.

I just upgraded to general at 15 (still /AG, gotta love how fast the gov't moves...) and would like to get on sometime. I spend a good amount of time on 20 meters SSB, and hopefully code sooner or later if I can get my hands on a key. We ought to get a 20m net together, like Friday at 8 PM.

Ok, lets just END the beggining portion of this post and continue onto its purpose....
For anyone that doesnt know about NAYN check out their Yahoo group, a couple of us are trying to get it going again.
The major issue will be timing and net controls, so we have to figure that out... I belive that should be in another topic though...
as for kb1lvm, I have been very busy with school and work but sundays are usually my free day and also the school club on mondays 2pm-4pm... so drop me a line if this fits into your schedual, If I dont hear from you before saterday, I'll send you a messege...

I just tested today, and passed for General exam (waiting for ULS entry now...). It was a *dream* of mine to start a "Youth Club" (IE: targeted at up to 22 years).
Perhaps somebody should arrange a "YouthNET".... An hour or so on a repeater accessable by radio, Echolink, and IRLP... (I would do it, but would like about 3-6 months experience first).

Well its great too see alot of kids in ham radio. I'am 16 and enjoy it alot. I wish I Could get into it more by updating. But money for a HF/VHF/UHF Radio is alot and all the things that go along with it plus antenna things my folks don't want a 200 foot tower in the backyard but I talked to my dad he said about 100 feet max. I wish I Could join you on HF but that CW is bringing me down cause I don't really understand it but it's good to hear you all.
