If I were Pluto, I'd file some sort of discrimination suit.
Perhaps a class action suit....on behalf of all planets "not in the equatorial plane".
There was more romance in adding the additional planets rather than taking away the one. This is a blow to romantics everywhere. I hope the observatory and space program budgets are cut accordingly.
Now let's hope that in the next billion years or so some celestial event takes an obvious planet and perturbs its orbit. That'll show the stuffed shirts that they were wrong to simply not add the extra three planets instead of taking one away.

Then again, that might be pretty hard to do, since we're a LOT bigger than all those other miniature states down there. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Its probably also to make it easier in schools for kids to remember the planets.
Wouldn't want to make school any more difficult.

Due to this historic change, the element Plutonium will be downgraded to space junk.

This forum is not a democracy, it is a dictatorship.
Hence no polls and therefore, no votes.
I will let AL2I be the dictator and decide who should and should not have the ability to comment in this thread.
All those who oppose him will suffer a terrible fate. Just ask Frank Murkowski. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif We need to watch those folks from Alaska...they get in control of one thread, next thing we know the whole website is gone. !!
They will be telling us here in the " lower 48 " what to think, when to think and If they will even let us think at all. "
Then we will have a president from Alaska.
...nice while it lasted..

It is not "lower 48".
We call it the "lesser 48".
Get it right or Dave will have to call in the goon squad.

Actually, I'd blame Walmart for hiring illegal planets and oversaturating the market with too many moons.

An unfortunate guy I know became convinced about the passage of X, and moved to the middle of the Canadian Shield, stocking up on supplies. He is a smart guy otherwise, a turbine engineer for big industrial processes.

Dadgummit!! #I learnt about 9 planets in school! #I spent umpteen minutes doing that! #Now these kids today only have to learn 8? ? ? ?!!
If I had to learn 9, they aughta learn 9 by golly! #
So the dumbing down of the solar system continues!
Well, ol' Ben Stein is WRONG " There are nine planets in the Solar System . . . . Mercury. . . Venus. . . Earth. . . Mars . . . . ." While the kids are all having their fruit rollups ( or whatever that crap was they were selling ! ! ! )

As a concerned amateur astronomer, I want to know how many of our tax Dollars, Euros, Pounds, etc. were squandered by those Chablis-sippin', Brie-noshin' junketeers while arriving at this momentous decision?
At least if they chat up about M-16, they're talking about the Messier object, not a rifle or poop.
(For years, NASA's term for human waste matter in a spacecraft was M-16.)

Everyone has wondered if there is life other than ours in the universe.
If there is any on Pluto, we might find out when they get the radio waves talking about this in......however much time it takes to get there.
They just might come knocking on our door asking about this planatoid stuff.
