The rumble now is that the Plutonians are "iratated". Yes "iratated". Very.
They have now voted in council that Earth is not a planet and that they are at war with Earth. We should begin to see signs of this decision in roughly 100 years.

Probably going to have to rename the Death Star also, since it doesn't meet these scientists definition of a star.
Just goes to show what a group of people with some alleged power can do. I'm sure anyone who makes books, posters, or models of the solar system are counting the money they will be making.
So will the landfills, where the old books, posters, and models are headed.

Don't think so. The IAU is the international group of professional astronomers. They name the stars officially, not the International Star Registry. The IAU is not a gov't agency.
Kinda like the ARRL except its members have more of a say in what goes on than do ARRL members. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have something to say. I strongly object to Pluto being rejected from our list of planets. It seems that the only reason was that Pluto's orbit was excentric enough to cross the orbit of Neptune.
Who cares. Pluto has been crossing the orbit of Neptune for a long time. A really long time. A really really long time.
Pluto has never hit Neptune. So what's the big deal?

I will miss Pluto.

A serious note in this otherwise terribly off-color (yuk yuk ! ! ) discussion - - #
Actually, Pluto's orbit has taken it inside of Neptune's orbit for the last several years. #Not only is its orbit inclined in relation to the plane of all the other bodies circling the Sun, it is eccentric enough to swing inside Neptune's orbit for about 10 years or so ( don't remember the exact number ) before going back outside the, now furtherest planet from the Sun.

Actually back in 1989 when voyager II was sending signals billions of miles back to earth from neptune my elementary school class had the privlage of watching some of the reviews of it.
Neptune at the time WAS that FARTHEST of the original 9 planets because Pluto's orbit had taken it inside Neptune's.
That only lasted a short time and now Pluto is outside for at least another 200 years.
A side point Pluto is probably not 'another rock'. The rocky planets are the 4 inner ones and gaseous planets make up the four outer ones. This is explained by simply gravity and density. However at the distance Pluto is from the Sun the temputure is so cold that methane and other 'gases are frozen solid! Pluto is probably a gas planet just a frozen gas planet.
Plutos just a rock? When God gives your rocks, have a rockfest! ROADTRIP! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
