View Full Version : The Pack is starting to split up....

As expected, the hounds are beginning to scent a need to separate from the old leader and jostle for dominance.

McCain (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14475828/)

His bid for independence without surrendering his strong position in the War on Terror will foster more and more of the curs in the pack to nip at his heels. With his legendary temper, they had better hope not to test his teeth.

What say ye? Will the scion of one Admiral and grandseed of another prevail? Will his status as a proven hero carry him through to victory?

Only time will tell. Lieberman versus McCain: a better choice than Hills versus... well, than Hills versus anyone, save perhaps Jack Scratch. Hmmmm, maybe even then.

I would agree, Bob, but Lieberman vs McCain could be a win/win contest for America, given what is visible in the cages at present.

I wonder what is that people see in McCain?

I also wonder why he is a hero?

If you ask me his famous "temper" is a sign of his addled brains from his time in Hanoi. I don't think the guy is right in the head anymore.

This is just a personal opinion. If you don't agree that is fine just don't resort to name calling.

Bill Clinton is famed for no less of a temper than McCain. How would you explain the genesis of his "addled brains?"

And McCain, who would not be my first choice as a presidential candidate (though I also confess to being unable to offer many others who are head and shoulders above him) is a hero for the obvious reason that needs no explanation by anyone.

I don't know about that. We had someone serve bravely and honorably in combat last time and they were heckled out of a spot in the Oval Office in favor of a coward.

And if you are talking about the flip-flopping, you may be right about McCain. Flipper didn't even do that many twists. "Religious Right is bad. Religious Right is good."

And he does supply and endless supply of racial epitaphs.

The problem with politics is we do not elect statesmen anymore, just lousy carpetbagging politicians.

The status of the alpha male is determined by the status of his competitors. If one has a dumpster-load of political hacks, liars and phonies from which to choose....

Shall we just leave at that?

Hello.

I kind of like GW in office, he got to shoot a lawyer and got away with it.
The weapons of mass distruction thing, a minor error.
But there IS a solution, I want the next prez' to send all of the lawyers into combat!
See, this solves everything.

I did not want to associate myself with any of the majors, so years ago, after reading some Robert Ringer booke, I registered as a Libertarian. I thought it sounded good, and so unorthodexed that no libertarian would stand a chanch at anything major. They do at times see to it politicians are investigated for crimes, and I did attend mixers at times, but that is all.
Some of my cousins and their friends went thru the celing when I dropped out of the Republician party.I think that is when some of my troubles started anew.
A few years ago, I was contacted by the S.B. chapter. It seems they needed a candidate. I was interviewed over the phone on my views.
I did not make the grade. I was too conventonal, too middle of the road, too agreeable to the idea of government intervention in our lives. So the offer was not made. I think also if they checked my credit rating and a few other ratings, I would have never gotten the call. But I am the only Hewes who was in their party, and I think they were fishing.
After that, I re-registered as "Decline to state."

I feel your pain.

But the way to strike for what you believe is not to abandon your principles, which is what fleeing to a party without hope of a victory really is, but to stand on your hind legs and fight. Vote in every primary, and vote your mind. You will possibly never find a candidate who meets your true political views, but you will encounter many who will be far below your likes. Vote against the bastards. The primaries are where the important contests tend to be fought, and most state political leaderships enforce a closed primary system: for the obvious reason.

If you examine the history of third-party campaign in this nation, whether the Bullmoose, the Perotistas, the Wallacites, or whatever, they inevitably skew the results of the national election, but never enough to do anything but almost guarantee a "minority-vote" presidency.

Hold your nose and pick one of them. If enough of the effluvium of idiocy and special interests wafts out among the public, the smell alone might inspire real change.

Though, frankly, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Remember Bo Gritz, the milatary guy who ran for presedint? I have no inside info, not being in the loop anymore, but he was ordered to run. The republicians needed a "nut" to appeal to the frindge. It also, I belive, identified nuts by going thru the ballot boxes to see who voted for him.
The candidate, as per the plot to the movie "Survivors" started a retreate where everybody can be free men. The locals had to post signs on their business windows"No Guns," for his followers liked to display firearms on their hips. The candidate later on, as per the plot of the movie "First Blood" became the milatary man who talked to Weaver to convince him to surrender.
There was a movie that came out recently about a black man asked to run in a nothing party so he can lose. I did not see the movie, but it must have been felt his running would aid the champaign of the main party arranging the sham candidate.
I do not like my cousins. They do not like me because the cops who ran into trouble pimping my mother saw to it . I am sure if my name came up in any election, It would have been used to embarrass any one of them and their close political friends and allies. One time, because cops saw to it people did not like me, cousin Gaston Hewes lost a bid for Govener by 3 wotes. Do not look it up on the internet, go to a library and look it up in "Who's who" in politics. For some reason the facts are muddled and confusing enough not to be able to nail down facts on the matter. This was in 1975, Mississippi.I never forgot that "I", in fact, was involved in the course of history. Small, I admit, But non the less, true.
I do not want to be injected in the political arena in this manner again. It is, quite frankly, himulaiting. Bo Gritz,s mental health finally took a toll on him for being a sham candidate. He attempted suicide.
