During these serious times people of all faiths should remember these 4 religious truths:
1. Muslims do not recognize Jews as God's chosen people
2. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah
3. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian world.
4. Baptists do not recognize each other at Hooters.

One truth...
All religions are mythical lies, that have nothing to do with real truths....nor were they ever meant to.
If that was always realized the 4 origanal posted "truths" would all be redundent....both at serious times, at laugh-ins....and even at bars, liqour stores and Hooters.

Only through studying God's Word can we understand....in Revelations, it is written that "nothing should be added nor taken away from this Book"...and in many instances, that's JUST what man has done making "denominations", where they believe & study pieces of the Bible and then add their own little laws and regulations into their beliefs.
I prefer to study the whole Word of God and have a relationship with Him...you can't put God in a box, he won't fit!
Yes, I understand what God intended, but not fully- and I hope to learn more as I fellowship in His Word.
Now, the apparently assinine attitudes of one denomination against the other is what fractures the Church and makes us all weaker....easy pickin's for non-Christians who would like to wipe the U.S. clean of what we enjoy today.

I called an old friend's sister a few weeks back to tell her I was sorry to hear of her brother's death and of missing his funeral service. I explained we had a falling out over the last 2 years because of his pushing his religion on me.

Yes....well when you know you are going to die (cancer) that's the time to get in good with the Lord.

I, for one, do not want to "wipe clean what we enjoy today". #I am assuming that what you meant is that you think the non-deists want to get rid of your religion. #I don't think that is true in general, and it certainly is not true for me.
However, I would like to be able to go buy a six-pack of beer or a fifth of gin on Sunday, and stop having those young boys in suits knocking on my door telling me I must be saved. #In other words, please enjoy your religion if it gives you some comfort. #But please stop trying to force me to live my life according to your religious precepts.
If you look at it that way, you can see that many religions, and especially the Christian and Islamic fundamentalists, are geared toward making everyone follow their religion "or else". #One thing I like about Judaism, Buddism, and Hinduism is that they don't care what I believe and are not telling me I have to believe their way.
Just because I am a non-deist does not mean I have no morals, or that I cannot behave with respect for life or for other people. #And, in fact, I would believe in a god if only I were presented with real, and unambiguous, evidence of a god's existance. #And no, the Bible is not evidence, it is only anecdotal. #Change this glass of water into wine while I watch would be enough...but no matter how many times I ask, it never happens. #Sorry, just "faith" is not enough for me. #If I have faith, it is in what I can observe about the world around me and not in something that cannot be seen, heard, felt, measured, and for which evidence indicates otherwise. #
I think it is unfortunate that the basic tenet of religious belief, that which apparently states that when faced with evidence to the contrary, the faith is more correct no matter what, gets carried over into other aspects of the believers' lives. #They tend to believe what they want to believe on a wide range of subjects not related to religion, even when there is solid unambiguous evidence otherwise. #It would seem that their religion has stifled their ability to think clearly. #And I am especially wary of anyone who tells me that I should not question or investigate or seek proof.
Fact is, the more fundamentalist the Christians and Islamics become, the less they seem to follow the important Commandments, and the less respect they have for other people and life in general. #And because of that I have less respect for them and their religions.
If there were a true religion, there would be only one religion.

Thanks for your comment, Gary...and, yes, faith IS a big part of my beliefs...and I can't tell you how many times faith has brought me just what was needed at a particular time or place...and I HAVE personally seen miracles of healing that doctors can't explain...however, I'm not one of those "OR ELSE!" type of guys. As best I can discern (and I do my best to not twist or turn the Word), I am instructed to proclaim the Good News (gospel)- what you do with it personally is up to you, since you have a will to do so. If a person becomes a Christian, good! If not, then you might say, the blood is off my hands as far as Christianity goes. It's not a forced issue, like other religions (Radical Islam = convert, be enslaved or be killed).
Those young boys are doing what they're instructed to do- please don't hold it against them, or me, for proclaiming what I feel is right and proper- but I haven't found anything like what I have here. And with our country having the Biblical basis it has in our laws and documents, I will not live anywhere else, since your and my freedoms aren't present anywhere else that I know.
Live free, Gary and thanks for your candidness; your rights begin where mine end, that's to be sure; we both can celebrate any way we wish, as long as we don't break laws. Good to live in the same country as you, hope to QSO with you some time!
And, in my own way, I'd like to say, "Be blessed."

That's interesting - I had forgotten that quote. I actually did a college term paper on Mark Twain's religion - he was a practicing Methodist. He just didn't practice often.
My grandmother insisted that we attend a Baptist church when we were young, though I cannot remember Grandma going with us. She was the grandaughter of a Church of Christ minister who also owned the distillery in Barnesville, Ohio, and she married a family that was a from a long line of Methodists, so I don't know where the Baptists got in.
The first Baptist preacher I remember was the Rev. Mr. Goode. After a few years of our acquaintance, Rev. Goode retired, and was replaced, by the Rev. Mr. Fine. We didn't get along with Rev. Fine at all, so we were hoping that he'd be replaced by Rev. Excellent, or Rev. Outstanding, but it never happened.
We had a falling out with the church over their objection to our Catholic friends, and reverted to our former heathen savage beliefs. I now belong to my mother's church, the Looterans. At least they serve wine on Sundays, and I have never heard any reference to hellfire or damnation in the 20 years since I joined. Hallelujah!
