Huntsville (Alabama) Hamfest 2006

Well, the annual Huntsville ( Alabama ) Hamfest is scheduled to be on August 19 - 20, 2006 at the Civic Center in Huntsville, Alabama .

I see a news article on the front page of qrz about " live video ", which might be interesting to watch.

But, is any one going besides ME ?

I will most likely be sitting behind a FLEA MARKET table most of the time, with 2 ( maybe 3 ) items for sale. One is a MFJ 969 antenna tuner and the second item will be a realistic 2 meter HTX - 202 handheld radio...if there is a third item it will be a Realistic htx - 242 2 meter mobile transceiver ( not decided on it yet ) because if I sell it, I will just have to buy another radio of some brand or another to take its place...?

But who else is planning to go as of now ?

I am NOT sure which group I will be assisting, that has not been decided...I guess which ever one will buy me free food & drink for sitting behind their respective table,helping to sell THEIR used items, while they wander through the crowd looking for other bargains.

CIA ---IF I had a table, you would be welcome to scatter your radio equipment on it to sell.

ME ? I have ( I think ) a choice between 2 groups to sit behind their tables ---

1) the " years & years " of knowing bunch...they want ME to give 5% of all I sell to them...no fringe benefits like free food / drink / etc. Been there did that.

2) new unorganized folks...no mention of ME giving any money to them to help sell my or their stuff...but no mention of free food / drink either.

I dont expect to do much wandering around...no money...and even what I sell wont be to go for possible new items ( or used ). Oh, I will wander around, but I just wont be buying much ( just a couple of Yeasu ft - 1000 s and a amplifier or two, and a new g5rv to burn up with the rf...yes I may buy a full wave rotatable dipole for 160 meters, If they include the small uhf tv antenna rotor to turn it with .

On the good side, I saw very few ( 20 or less all day long ) of any kind of CB RADIO at this fest last year...or any brand, new / used / base / mobile / etc. I didnt even see but one or two 10-11-12 meter mobile rigs, and they didnt sell. It was just that folks were NOT interested in them !!

...sure would be nice to have some of that FREE rain to fall on the corn & tomato crops this coming weekend during the hamfest.

Be lots better than using that " store bought water " that comes in the pipelines from who knows where .

Just send over some " leaky clouds " to stay around about 3 days with no lightning / wind / just plain ol' rain .

I tried to be nice , friendly / helpful, ..but I get called names ( wanna see the paperwork through the time frame --including month / day / year / callsign / etc ) and from what I have SEEN nothing has been done about it...threatened by some one about " thin ice " whom no one knows any thing new about ..............threatened by fellow amateurs of selling " illegal 2510 radios " when they did not know FOR A FACT if they had been modified for 11 meter usage or not...but they guessed / assumed that it had...but still did NOT know for a fact, but still fussed............................my own PM gets broadcast to the entire world and it takes several days ( more like a week ) for the person that did it to get fussed at by a mooderator.

As stated last night to a young lady..." There is a life without qrz "...more internet web sites than just one, plus the radio...oops, that muffled audio ssb radio on HF ...but I would bet ( gamble ) that if I said something bad / racial / about YOU , that ...that one radio transmission would be perfectly clear.
Clear enough to be taped. So keep those recorders running on 3955 from around 11 pm --- 3 am central time...each & every night. Do not forget.

Now the "west coast version of EP " and the "east coast version of EP " can run things, and I can return just 5 minutes of one day per week and catch up on the " nothing new " situation.

...now wait, will EP really be at the hamfest or is that just to make me think he will be there ? Gas is @ $3 per gallon and we all know what a tightwad he is.........? Is he really going to actually spend about $50 to go, buy gas, admission / food / parking fee / etc when he could just stay home for FREE ?

Folks have been saying for months about the great deals you can not get any where else but on e-bay !! Even at hamfests.

edit: If we miss each other at Huntsville, we could plan on Shellby on laborday weekend, and I alwas go the the Evansville hamfest this fall, I'll wear my call sign on a hat and a badged that has my call sign and "3955 group" printed on it.

The Evansville Hamfest is good, plenty of room and it would be a real pleasure to see and talk with you...

kxq ---I cant describe my self ---ag4yo & ai4fp met me last year and they can tell ya whut I luk like.

about 5 foot 5 inches...185 pounds... nearly bald on top ( problably wear a blue hat any way )..thick " coco - cola " bottle type glasses.

Folks say I am a LOT nicer in person than on the internet.

the 2510 / 2950 rigs are all history...I may have some ( about 50 ) old screw-type fence ceramic insulators for sale, along with a antenna tuner ( mfj 969 ), a htx 202 or 2 for sale and that should about cover it.

No, I do not drink coffee , but looking 4 ward to meeting wif all of you good folks here on qrz.

I think I will be at one of 2 tables...if you know where the numbers are at... either # 6 or another about 10 tables away but I dont know their exact number ? If you are looking at the main "stage " area where the "talk-in dude wits, and the announcer is at, and the ticket drawing box is...look to your far right. Along the 2 lines that have their back along the 2 walls is where I think I will be. in the corner / elbox area.

I went to church instead, and saw anothe local amateur radio operator that actually DID go to Huntsville Hamfest on Saturday....He DID sell one used radio ( do not know what kind / brand / model or how much ), but he said the crowd was smaller, and most folks were not buying much in the USED department ( that every one had their USED prices too high ) .

So I am glad now that I did NOT go...now no one can say that my prices were too high, since none of my 3 items made it to the hamfest anyway. Kind of nips THAT idea in the bud, don't it ?

One thing the folks who run it changed...it used to be where you had to be there IN PERSON to win the grand prizes...no more, they will send it to you. So where is the incentive to even go , and be there at 2 pm on Sunday to possibly buy something else and accidently WIN the grand prizes ?

But, hey those folks are experts...so let them be.

I was there last year, and you had to be there IN PERSON to win the " minor " prizes and that was cool, but the GRAND PRIZE winner did not have to be there IN PERSON to win...and that was lousy.

Either 2 - 3 years before, I think it was the president of the local club that won the GRAND PRIZE and I do not think that went over too well with the crowd ( boo s from the audience ) ...I hears all the " boo " going on and found out what is printed above at a later date.

But the folks I talked to this morning IN PERSON after church said the crowd was " way down " after lunch time ( 12 noon ) on Saturday, so I just wonder how it IS right now ?

Also used to be a " tailgate party " near Muscle Shoals / Florence area a few years back, but find out this week there apparently were " too many chiefs & not enough braves " over there for the event to go well....??
