This came to me in an e-mail and I thought I'd pass it along to the assembled masses here on QRZ. #Sounds like a good event. #My club will be working with some Boys Scouts that weekend, and helping an emergency preparededness fair, so maybe we can work this station.
Don't know how many of the original "codetalkers' are still alive, but I fear that like most of the WWII generation, we are losing them at a rapid rate.
The father of #Herb Goodluck, #N7HG, #of Window Rock, Arizona was one of the Navajo Code Talkers back in WWII. ## Using their native Navajo language as a basis, they developed a "shorthand" verbal code which was never broken through WW II and used heavily by the Marines. #Each year he tries to promote and commemorate the Navajo Code Talkers Day, #August 14. #The 3rd annual event #is #Aug 13-Aug 14, 1400Z-2359Z daily, on 14.265 and 7.265 +/- . #He hopes to meet you all on the air.
Send QSL or questions to
Window Rock, AZ. Navajo Amateur Radio Club, #N7C. #
The Navajo Code Talkers Days. . #
Herbert Goodluck, N7HG, #
PO Box 3611, #
Window Rock, AZ 86515.

I would be honored to talk to them, only problem might be understanding them! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
But seriously, what is the "event"? A special event station? A contest?
Will they be under the club call - N7C? That sounds like a special event call though.

rdn.....don't worry....they do speak english http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
the "event" is to honor these mostly unsung heroes of WWII, the Navajo Code Talkers, by the son of one of the talkers Herb N7HG...I do believe they will be using the club call N7C, but they may also be using Herb's call N7HG..not sure...
Herb also said "Tom, We have also added on Aug 12,2006 be on 20 and 40 Meters look out for that day as well. hope to meet you on theair, Herb"
if you're not familiar with the Navajo Code Talkers, check out the movie "Windtalkers" with Nicolas Cage...was just on one of the movie channels on Dish Network this past weekend... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
These guys are my heroes. One of the few 'secret' things about WW II that my father told me about, was about the Code Talkers. (After I promised to keep it to myself) I've always had the greatest respect for them and still do. Theirs is an incredible story and one of True Americans. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Further information re the Navajo Code Talkers may be found on the National Security Agency's website.
Even more compelling is the exhibit at NSA's National Cryptologic Museum (just outside the NSA HQ at Fort Meade, MD; open to the public) where actual relics, including some of the unit's actual uniforms, are on display.
A great history of genuine American heroes...

not too surprising that the Japanese could never break the
"code"....if you've ever heard any Navajo's talking amongst
themselves you will understand...we have a reservation ~ 30 miles from my QTH & we have lots of Navajos doing their shopping in Magdalena....very interesting to hear them...
BTW, Herb said they will be using the special event call N7C & they have special QSL cards to commemorate the event...

Yes they are using N7C for the special event. I worked them on 20m at 1633z. Good strong signal into the Dallas area. Card and a SASE went in the mail this afternoon.

If you ever go through Kayenta, AZ (it's on the Navajo reservation), stop for a burger at the local Burger King. The inside of the restaurant is full of Code Talker memorabilia.
Cool stuff.

I finally got thru the pile up at about 2340z this evening.
I have to get a card out to them either tomorrow or Monday. Sounds like a 'neat' card. I heard the card was a photo of the op in front of a memorial to the Code Talkers in Arizona.
