Hard to believe they risked life and limb to set up that operation on the barren, windy ice patch known as Swain's Island. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Looks like another day at the beach to me!

Nice pictures - maybe we could share them on SSTV... it should be easier to do that now since the folks on KH8 are no longer inviting the world to call them between 14.225 and 14.235.

With all that grueling hardship, it's no wonder we can't get more hams. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The signs in the one pic give me an idea. What a great vacation site, and maybe someone to pick up part of the tab? Maybe a BIG part?

Some real hard core DXers no doubt....

Where's the topless beach photos? LOL!
So those were the operators everyone was complaining about.

They were slow, but they were ON, from a NEW one.
It took a while, but things would have gone a LOT, LOT LOT better if the hams I heard in the US knew a few things about working DX.
There were more people calling on top of the SI ops than I have ever heard in my ham radio life. There were more people who just kept CALLING, seems they never listened. The whole thing, from the perspective of listening, was a cluster **** of royal proprtions.
I can't WAIT till the new lower standards intro HF license takes effect.
You guys may make fun of them and bitch about them But they were there, and they made contacts. So what if they had FUN while doing it. Good for them.
I didn't see any of you guys rushing over there to Operate.
I am surprised of some of you ! I do know some of you were just kidding though !

I think some of it is tongue in cheek but to be fair.
If myself or anyone goes to some "rare" new DXCC entity, and plan to put "it on the air", the community expects that we will do it in a organized and well planned fashion and provide numerous QSO's to all that need it.
This operation was anything but that. Yes, they were there and "I wasn't", but that doesn't mean as an operator there, they should take up such bandwidth because of the lack of experience, listening 50-80 khz up the band, wiping out QSOs, nets, etc. That isn't necessary.
Anyone going on a expedition had best know what they are doing before the go, have a plan, and understand how to properly do pile up management. Much of that was missing from this operation.
Yeah, they made contacts and a whole lot of folks didn't get through as well.
I would have preferred someone with experience running the pileups more efficiently and causing less harm to the bands then was experienced. They are still being talked about on the bands by those not wanting to work them but being QRMd due to poor pile up management.
Anyway, let's hope another group goes there and really puts on a show. Thanks to those that did go there and let's hope in the future, they will have a better handle on how to do a future operation so this sort of situation doesn't arise again.

Who cares how they operated. It was their show. They went on their nickle and I'm glad they had a good time. I would do the same, and anyone who didn't like it could feel free to head on over and do his own DXpedition however he liked. They did the best they could with the radio experience they had.........you cork sniffers who think you have to work every DX entity on every band 10 minutes after they get on the air need a side hobby, like dynamiting fish ponds or something. Much faster instant gratification.
