View Full Version : Is This Bank Teller An Idoit?

The suspect demanded money in the bank's drive thru after sending the teller a "small electronic device" which he claimed was a bomb. Scared to death, the bank employee ran to the front door and threw it outside. A State Police bomb squad determined the device wasn't real.

But, the frightening ordeal did disrupt nearby businesses and traffic for two hours.

What an idiot. Scared to death and concerned about the safety of others in the building, who does that stuff anymore. She should have dropped it, given the man the money and gone on break. Who knows, being the only survivor of the blast (if it had been real), she could have become President of the facility. WHAT AN IDIOT

Generally the glass window of a drive through is bullet proof. If it was a pass box I would have simply sent it back out and told the dude to go ahead and set if off.

If it were a capsule shuttle drive through I would have put it back in the tube and done the same thing.

If it had been a real explosive device it may have taken out the bad guy if he actually did detonate it.

Should have sent him out a bundle of $1's with a dye pack. Then the crook could have found out what a small explosive device can do. I bet he would be quite red in the face for it too. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Anyone know where I can buy some of those dye packets? I think I've just figured out how to put an end to the theft of beer from the local rod and gun club.

You want the ones that can be seen with a UV light. They use that with oleoresin capsicum. The police should have no trouble ID'ing them. The red dye tends to get everywhere. Just look at the money lately. A lot of it seems to have red dye.

We have bank robberies on almost a daily basis here in the Richmond / Petersburg area.
I'm beginning to think there is some kind of local vocational education program geared to this activity.

Does everyone "know" how they would react in such a stressful situation? Especially with only seconds to take action.

You can sit at your computer and think of all sorts of things that could have been done. However, considering that the teller had only seconds to make a decision, throwing it out of the door was definitely one of the choices and was not a "bad" choice.

Yes, there were other choices available but the teller's first action was basically a combination of self preservation while protecting others that were in the bank. There was no time to consider various alternatives. The fact that the package "tied up traffic" for two hours is immaterial. Had the bomb been real I would definitely put up with having traffic "rerouted" for a couple of hours instead of having people injured or killed.

I leave police work to the police. Intervening would make you a bigger candidate for the Darwin Awards than she was. If he shoots and kills 3 innocent bystanders because you interfered, how would you feel?

They'll catch him Greg. And then they'll return all the money he stole out of your bank. I hear that bank had a new invention. Video cameras. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I've heard of banks giving away calendars, toasters, even money in a new savings account.

But female DEER? What's the name of that bank? There are a few good 'ole boys around here who would love a good deer hunt!

I would have yelled,

BOMB !!!! BOMB !!!!

EVERYONE OUT !!!!!

then give him some money and jotted down his license plate, make and description of the car.

I know that's what I would have done because I go over what I would do under any circumstances because of the business that I worked in. At any time, there could be situations like that in the gas stations, and stores I've worked in. And I also worked in a bank. And there is training on what to do in case of robberies in banks.

Ok Greg, tell us what you would have done. Sit on it and wait for it to hatch perhaps?

The fact is the subject matter is too trivial which has nothing to do with depth.

It's nice to sit in the comfort of our homes and second guess what somebody did in response to a tense situation. The fact of the matter is you don't know what you would have done. Sure, you know what you would like to think you would have done but not having been faced with this situation you don't truly know how you would have responded.

Using proper spelling and grammar are very basic and shallow means of expression. If you can't get past the shallow you will never reach areas too deep for others.

No matter how you look at it, carrying the device through the bank was asinine. When one realizes the option was available to send the device back and shut the door, the story almost sounds like an urban legend.

as a matter of fact, i do. i'd give over the money (including the tracer pack).

i've done it before, you see ... i was once a summer bank teller at chase manhattan in new york. we were held up four times in five weeks ... during teller training the bank instructed tellers to comply with such people, and i agree--bank tellers don't get paid enough to do anything but (especially for money that's not even theirs).

it was kinda fun to know that one idjit put the dye pack down the front of his pants when scooping up the money ... and that's where it was when it was detonated.
