View Full Version : Neo groupism
Everyday I see a "new" word or redefinition of an existing one. Neocon, Neoliberalism, Neonazis, and I am sure a host of others. Add to this all the hypenated Americans ,some of my ancestors where in the Americas when Columbus landed and some of them came later thus I can't really claim a particular hypen , and pretty soon you will have each person in his/her own little slot.
This reminds me of the Science Fiction of Isaac Asimov where people lived on their land with only robots in attendance. Electronic communication was the only way they saw another human. Cloning at the end of their lives replaced sex. This is the ultimate result of seperating people by classes, real or imaginary.
I had an Advanced class for over 20 years and finally got an Extra this year so I guess I am a NeoExtra.
Lighten up folks, I divide people up into two groups. Taxpayers and dead. I am trying to stay in the first as long as I can.

Words of wisdom, indeed.
Richard Packham expands on the concept:
"The fundamental problem with labels - although they are very convenient - is that we humans tend to think (quite unjustifiably) that if we can find the proper label for something, the label brings an understanding of that thing's essence. This is not true. Labels have no such power and contain no such knowledge or information. Inferences drawn from labels may be correct, but just as likely may not be correct. That is, we 'read into' the thing characteristics that belong to our definition of the label, but not necessarily to the thing we are labeling."

How insightful. How poigniant. How intelligent. How lost on so many here. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I think people haven't yet realized that the internet is about as liberal as you can get. This whole idea that we are on it was brought about by a bunch of Hippie Geeks working on primordial computers. We're still at the "Oh, look. Fire. What a great idea." stage on this. Blogs are great. Do you believe in 'Creationism'? How about 'Intelligent Design?' Or maybe 'Evolution?' Maybe we're just puke from a drunk alien that was a failed experiment? Who knows? On Blogs this is News! Opinion? Nah. Then the blind quote the blind and we have the idea that image is everything. Right. Hold on while I put this Pepsi sticker on the roach poison. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

What a great example on the part of CCW to try to impress us with things he learned in his first quarter of community college.
