Quote[/b] ]Neoliberalism is a pejorative label for the economic liberalism which has became increasingly important in international economic policy discussions from the 1970s onwards.

In its dominant international use, neoliberalism refers to a political-economic philosophy that de-emphasizes or rejects government intervention in the domestic economy. It focuses on free-market methods, fewer restrictions on business operations, and property rights. In foreign policy, neoliberalism favors the opening of foreign markets by political means, using economic pressure, diplomacy, and/or military intervention. Opening of markets refers to free trade and an international division of labor. Neoliberalism generally favors multilateral political pressure through international organizations or treaty devices such as the WTO, World Bank and ADB. It promotes reducing the role of national governments to a minimum. Neoliberalism favors privatization over direct government intervention and production (such as Keynesianism), and measures success in overall economic gain. To improve corporate efficiency, it strives to reject or mitigate labor policies such as minimum wage, and collective bargaining rights. It opposes socialism, protectionism, environmentalism, fair trade, and critics say it impedes democratic rule. Likewise, these critics argue that labor rights and social justice should have a priority in international relations and economics.

It is like if the far right goes so far around the bend it folds back and becomes the left.

This reminds me; Bush has said we have turned the corner about 16 times now in Iraq. Does that mean we are back where we started yet?

The real proof is in what the MF's running for office, do and say.

That reminds me of watching one of the daily shows where they had trotted out some former gang member and his mentor.

I guess the mentor really wanted to emphasize what a great turn around the kid did to straighten out his live so when asked about it he replied "Willie really applied himself and ultimately did a complete three sixty with his life.

Quote[/b] ]In these terms the prominent neoliberals are people such as Steffen Gustavsen, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Robert Barro, and Alan Greenspan.
--From Wiki linky in original post.

Hmmm... then I guess all that complimentary talk about Reagan and Thatcher from the right is just a compliment to us Libs. Thank you very much. Ah 'preciates it.

OTOH, I've learned something from MW's post. I am not a neo-lib. I'm definitely against globalization of the economy, because that's the road to a New World Order. Will it happen, yep. Are we ready, nope. So I suppose I'm an ORDO-lib. See. Ya learn something every day. Thanks dude. But,

Let's not be narrow-minded, there's also:

Quote[/b] ]Classical liberalism
Cultural liberalism
Economic liberalism
Libertarianism
Neoliberalism
Ordoliberalism
Paleoliberalism
Social liberalism

From reading posts on this board, there are just two definitions:

Liberal: Term used by those who still support the Bush Gang, to describe anyone who makes even the most subtle comment that is in any way the slightest bit critical of their Hero and his men.

Neo-Con, Neo Conservative: Term used by Bush opponents to describe the Bush Gang and anyone who still supports them.

Has anybody ever looked in a dictionary to see the meaning of the word liberal.? #If you own a dictionary, or know of someone who owns one, ask them to tell you the meaning of the word.

That's so Twentieth Century. Just Google it:

* Liberal Linky * (http://www.answers.com/liberal&r=67)

Now, if Conservatism is the opposite of Liberalism (as many believe), then notice the antonym for Liberal. STINGY. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Now is that an accurate definition of the Socialist Commie LIBS that roost only at QRZ or is it just a static all encompassing definition of Liberals when they knew their place?? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
