Starts 0001UTC today. Anyone else going to be participating?

I'm not a 10-10 member yet but will be getting as many contacts as possible for the contest (personal benefit).

I'm not a member yet either, but will be giving out "one pointers" as fast as I can.

I have a quarter wave ground plane and a center-fed dipole ready to go for 10 meters.

I'm sure that it will be tough going, good luck guys.

I make a pass thru 10, 12 & 15 meters pretty much every day. Nine times out of ten there is no activity to speak of due to where we are in the solar cycle right now.

Will take a listen in the CW portion of ten & will give out my 10X number of 67,688 if I hear you.

I made a few contacts on 10 and 15 last night. Maybe 10 will open up enough for us all to have some fun.
Last night was the first time I actually made a contact on ten.
Never really tried before.

Edited to say I was wrong...I made a 10m contact with Melinda ki4cia about 03:00utc on the 3rd of aug. (aug. 2nd local)
anyway...have fun, I'll be listening.

That's the thing. You have to monitor 10, not just pass through. Very rarely do I not scan the band and not hear someone, much less make a contact.

Past weeks contacts: MI (x2), PA (x2), VA, NJ, DE, NY (x2), LA, and Bahamas. Heard Argentina in there two days ago.

10M is great, it's just there's not enough people who monitor enough to realize when the band is open, and who's talking.

BTW, I'll be using my Icom 718 with the 10M dipole.

I was looking at the band plan for 10m on the arrl site and noticed there is not a calling frequeny listed.
what is the best range of frequencies to look for traffic on ten SSB??? The phone portion of the band is rather large.
Thanks in advance to anyone who will give me a lead on this.

ITV, your best bet on SSB is the portion from 28.300 to 28.500. Most of the activity will be in that region.

BTW, I'm always amused by the folks that complain that 10m is open, but nobody is on. Working neighboring states is not a band opening on 10. If you hang around long enough to see real band openings again you'll know what I'm talking about!

QUIET ZONE.

Please note the Quiet Zone between 28.490 & 28.510 MHz. This portion of the band is reserved for non contest use of the band. This is part of the 10-10 Club Contest Rules. Hope to talk to y'all on the air.

10M calling frequency is in the band plan laid out by Icom as 28.400. A lot of activity on there or within about 10kc's. Other than that, like said, most activity is in the novice portion of the band from 28.3 to 28.5.

You're right about band openings. Sporadic E gets you throughout the states. But for someone who doesn't spend all of their time on 20, and is mostly accustomed to 2M FM, it's very fun! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Quiet zone won't be intruded by me.

Good luck.

Nope. Going to play in another contest.

Been listening on and off since 0001z, I have heard and made contact with exactly (1) station. He was in Florida.
Other than that, there is more activity in a Morgue tonight than on 10 meters.
But, that could change in moments.
I will continue to listen. All the other bands (ie 15,17 & 20) have gone to sleep here for the evening. So, its 10 or nothing.

And, there is always tomorrow !

Keep at it Bill. 22 contacts and counting... band seems to have died out though, aside from one or two guys calling CQ and a few people in QSO. Hopefully more people will be on tomorrow.

Good luck.

I'll pick it up in the morning.
Maybe an early morning opening will occur.

I did hear ONE more OP in Florida, tried replying, he heard me but I was very weak. When I tried to reply to him, he was GONE !
GONE like RIGHT NOW !!!

POOF....GONE !!!

Hope springs eternal for tomorrow !

Still nothing this morning.
Been listening for about 2 hours.
All the bands seem mostly dead.
Only a few of the 'Metamucil' bunch are audible.

Maybe later.......(yeah....Right !)

I hear him too, but the strength is quite weak.
I can hear him for a few seconds, then he is down in the noise floor. Tried to call once when he was 'up', nothing.

Maybe later.....At this rate, later is never coming !

Well my luck ran out. It's been pretty much dead here since close to 10pm last night. Opened a little bit this morning around 10-11am but all the stations were VERY weak. Made one contact in the past 12 hours. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

One of the best things one of my Elmers told is that he never heard two receivers talking to each other! If everyone is scanning the band, of course you won't hear anything. Someone has to transmit!

Speaking of 10/12/15M:

I have one of these in the shack lineup...

10W out; all modes. Also covers 6M. When the sunspots come back in a few years I'm going to try for DXCC using the thing on each of those bands. May not get it on 6 running low power, but then again I might if we have a good cycle peak.

I always wondered what the marketing strategy was for that radio and who they were attempting to target. From what I understand, the radio was pretty good. Was this aimed at the Tech/+ and Novice who had 10 meter privileges?

Back in the early 60s there were radios SSB radios that just covered 3 bands, usually 75-40 and 20 meters. (NCX-3, SR-160, Swan 240 etc.) They were low cost alternatives to their big brothers.

As far as the 10/10 contest is concerned, I listened periodically on Saturday and never heard anything.

Well I guess the contest is probably over for me. QRN has started up here off of these power lines. Finished out with 43 contacts in 13 states. Looking forward to future ones though, I still had a lot of fun. I heard clubs with over 80 contacts last night from TX, and Saturday night, I talked with a fellow in NY that had over 90 after the first 4 hours of the contest. So I guess not everyone did bad. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I have a WHOPPING (1) contact with an op in Florida. That's it !
Over the past 48 hours, 10 has been DEAD.
Maybe I'm just too far north. (High Latitude)

Seems the summer Es season has reached its peak...was seeing a lot more activity even a month back. Now...very little.

Had to do some work on 'DSG's mo'sickle this weekend else we probably would have given it a shot.

I didn't put a lot of hours in, but the band seemd dead most of the contest period. Usually in a contest for 10 meters there are plenth of folks calling, hoping for, or waiting for, the band to open. If you don't hear anything on 10 meters during the 10-10 contest, then it is pretty much for sure there is poor propagation.

I am zippo for the contest, not even a local calling for DX.

And I thought it would be a pretty good contest, since there seemed to be a band opening every day lately. It sure dired up for the contest.

Oh well, next year.
